Villegas: Health

o
Inspection is still the best policy
plan sa Kalusugan sa DepEd is a convergence of health program and activities to deliver to the schools
where learners are provided with essential care and services to help reach their full educational poten-
tial.
Cogonan Elementary School always look for the welfare of its students particularly on the academic
performance as well as the health condition of its clientele.
Health inspection in all grade level is observed. The advisers checked the nails, ears, teeth and even the
hairs of the pupils.
These health inspection inspired the Grade Three adviser, Mrs. Laarni Villegas to say that, “Health is still
the best policy”.

Villegas: Health Inspection is still the best policy

P
ursuant to the DepEd Memorandum No. 80, s. 2015, entitled “Guidelines on the Implementation of the
National School Deworming Day with the Theme “Oplan Goodbye Bulate”, Cogonan Elementary will
implement and participate in nationwide program.

Deowrming permits were distributed based on the number of enrolment per section while deworming tablets
were given based on the number of signed permission slip to all classroom advisers.
Furthermore, a smooth conduct of the NSDD will be observed by all working committees. The school clinician
consolidated the masterlist of pupils dewormed. Finally, the result showed that out of 311 enrolled pupils, a total of one
hundred forty-one will be permitted o undergo deworming. It was also revealed that most pupils who did not undergo
deworming were not permitted by their parents/guardians because of hesitation on safetiness and uncertain adverse
effect of the deworming tablet to their child. Consequently, the results indicate that there is a need to orient and edu-
cate parents and other stakeholders not only in guidance and motivation of school personnel but also with the pres-
ence of advocacy of health officer in order to achieve closely 100% targeted outputs.

CES commits support to rabies awareness

R
abies is a viral infection that causes inflammation of the human‟s brain occurs after a transdermal bite or scratch by an inf ected animal, like dogs, cats ,bats, mon-
key and many more.. It can also be transmitted when infectious material, usually saliva, comes into direct contact with a vic tim‟s fresh skin lesions or have contact
with the eyes, mouth or nose. . Rabies may also occur, though in very rare cases, through inhalation of virus containing spray or through organ transplant.

In line with Oplan Kalusugan sa Department of Education (Ok ka sa DepEd), Cogonan Elementary School had its awareness campaign about rabies last July 12,2018.
It is a room to room activity that started with a film showing about how a person can be infected by this virus since it is r egarded as a significant public health problem which
is one of the most acutely fatal infection responsible for the death of 200-300 Filipinos annually according to DOH.Teachers discussed some tips on how to avoid rabies
and what to do in case a person was bitten or infected by an animal with rabies most especially the importance of vaccination.. After a thorough elaboration, the pupils are
given a quiz bee to evaluate their understanding on the said virus.
The day‟s activity was very meaningful because everyone gained knowledge and awareness in relation to rabies prevention. Let us remember that “prevention is better
than cure”, and be aware that rabies is considered neglected disease, which is 100% preventable .
