STEM Academy Health Syllabus

Coach Tuten

HEALTH EDUCATION:
This course is designed to promote student learning with regard to health issues that affects their immediate
and long-term health. Maintaining a healthy way of living requires a balance of physical, mental-emotional, and social
well-being.
Health education provides students with knowledge of skills necessary to confront health related issues and
make a smooth transition from puberty to adolescence. We will achieve this by using cross-curricular project/
problem based learning within this class. Our goal is to motivate students to use the knowledge learned to affect and
make changes to not only themselves, but also to their families and community members.

STEM Late Work Policy

Late is defined as any work turned in after the designated due date. Students will have
3 days after the zero is entered into the gradebook to make up the assignment however;
only one assignment per class can be made up during the quarter for a maximum
possible grade of 80%.
NOTE: Failure to complete and submit the missing assignment will result in a zero
being issued.
If a student is absent (sick, field trip, etc.) it is his/her responsibility to ask the
teacher for work that was missed. The student will have five days to make up the
assignment(s) without penalty. After these five days have passed the work is
considered late.
Re-Do Opportunities for assessments (tests, quizzes, and projects) are at the discretion
of the teacher. It is the student's responsibility to request and advocate for an
opportunity to re-do an assessment. Students will need to attend a re-teach session
(lunch & learn, tutorial, etc.) prior to the assessment re-do opportunity. A maximum redo
score is 80%.
NOTE: Student MUST notify teacher via email when the late assignment has been
submitted. Late work assignments MUST be submitted to the Make Up Work Google
Classroom in order to be accepted and graded.

NO NAME Assignments: If a student turns in a paper assignment and has omitted his/
her name, the student will earn a zero and the paper will be pinned on the “LOST
WORK” board. Late work policy will then be enacted.

HOMEWORK:
Homework will be unfinished class work or studying in preparation for an upcoming test.
Ample time will be provided in class to complete assignments. Please help me to
encourage your child to manage his/her time well so he/she does not have to take work
home to complete.

DISCIPLINE:
The STEM Academy uses the ticket system to handle all behavioral and discipline issues. Please refer to
your school handbook that was emailed to you at the beginning of the school year for detailed information.
CONTACT INFORMATION:
