Some operation systems may display a user account control dialog box, when you run
the setup file (fig. 1). Click Yes to start installation.
The start window of the setup wizard (fig. 2) contains information about free and demo
versions of the system and some installation tips. Click Next to continue installation.
Now you can see a dialog box (fig. 3) with license agreement on the use of ELMA System.
After you have read it, check the I accept the agreement box and click Next to
continue installation. If you check the I do not accept the agreement box, the Next
button will be unavailable (you will not be able to continue installation of the system).
Select the folder, in which ELMA files will be installed, in the opened dialog box (fig. 4)
We recommend, that you use the default installation folder. To select the folder you
need, click Browse… and choose the required directory. Click Next to continue
installation.
Select the required usage type in the opened dialog box (fig. 5) and click Next. The type
you selected will be colored.
Demo is a version of the system, which allows you to try ELMA functions.
This version contains a ready-made system configuration. It includes an
organizational structure, business processes, users and so on. You can use
the system for work and presentations.
Free is a blank configuration of the system. To start working with it, you
need to create an organizational structure, add users, model business
processes and so on.
Specify the port for ELMA Server in the http://localhost: field of the opened dialog
box (fig. 6). We recommend that you use the default port (7000). From this point on it
will be used for working with the Web Application in your browser.
Check the required boxes in the opened dialog box (fig. 7) and click Next.
Install ELMA 3.8 server as a Windows service will autostart ELMA with Windows
and display it in Windows Services. We recommend using this option when installing
ELMA Free Version.
Add Designer and Web Application shortcuts to the user desktop adds shortcuts
for Designer and Web Application to the user desktop for quick access.
At this step (fig. 8) you can see the full list of parameters you selected at the previous
steps. You can change these parameters if necessary. To do this, return to the required
step by clicking Back.
Step 8. Installation
At this stage, the setup wizard copies ELMA files on your computer (fig. 9). You need
to wait, until this process is completed; it may take a few minutes.
At this stage, the installation dialog box (fig. 10) displays information about installation
results. To start ELMA, check the Run ELMA 3.8 box.
After the server has been started, the dialog box looks like in fig. 12:
Click Open in the Web Interface section of the start window (fig. 12);
Click Start ELMA 3.8 shortcut, created at step 6 of ELMA Demo installation;
Enter http://127.0.0.1:7000 in the browser URL bar (if you specified a different
port at step 4 of demo installation you should use it instead of 7000).
When you start the system for the first time, an activation screen opens (fig. 13). It
means that you have to activate ELMA. A registration key is generated automatically
when you register on our website.

Follow the link register on our website in the activation dialog box and fill in the form
on the page (fig. 14).

After you have clicked Next the current page will be refreshed and it will display an
activation key (fig. 15). Copy it and past it in the respective field of the ELMA Server
activation window (fig. 13). Click Activate to continue.
After you have entered the activation key, ELMA Server will start. You will see the
welcome screen of the demo version, where you need to sign in as one of the users.
You can access ELMA Web Application from different computers. To do so, enter the
address in the browser URL bar like this: http://address:port. Address is the IP
address of the computer, on which ELMA Demo is installed; Port is the port value, you
specified at step 4 of demo version installation (7000 by default).
To access the system through the Internet, use a static external IP address.
Note that not more than 10 users can work with the Demo Version by default. Demo
Version supports only five concurrent users i.e. only five users can work with it
simultaneously.
ELMA System User Guide may come in handy when working with the Web Application.
To configure the system and model business processes, start ELMA Designer. You can
do it in several ways:
Click Open in the Business Process Designer section of the start window (fig. 12);
Click Start ELMA 3.8, created at step 6 of ELMA Demo installation.
When you start the system for the first time, an activation screen will open (fig. 13).
The activation procedure is the same as the one, described in para. 2.2 Activating
ELMA Server (fig. 13).
After you have clicked Open in the Business Process Designer section of the start
window, a Sign in to ELMA dialog box opens. If you did not change admin user profile,
click OK. ELMA Designer will open.

You can switch configurations as soon as the system is installed. Current configuration
by default is BPM: Business Process Management.
Click one of the configurations in the left part of this dialog box to select one. In the
right part of the box, you will see the Enable configuration button (fig. 18).
When you click Enable Configuration, a dialog box opens (fig. 19). It contains a
notification, that switching configurations will restart the server. Click Yes to continue.
After you have clicked Yes you will see the start window with server restating progress
(fig. 11). It may take a while; wait until the process is completed.
After the loading of the configuration is completed, a similar start window (fig. 11)
opens. The only difference is that it displays the name of the configuration you selected.
This configuration will be set as the default configuration.
click the right mouse button on the icon. Click Open the server control
window in the context menu. ELMA Server Control window will open.
Click the Start button in the ELMA Server Information section of the opened dialog
box (fig. 22).
3. Sometimes an attempt to start ELMA Server may fail because of the configurations
of Windows Firewall. The solution is this: disable Windows Firewall. To do so, go to
Start – Control Panel – All Control Panel Items – Windows Firewall – Turn
Windows Firewall on or off (fig. 23).
Select Turn off Windows Firewall for each network type in the opened window (fig.
24). Click OK to save changes.
Now you can restart ELMA Server. This procedure is described in point 2.
4. Error: *EleWise.ELMA.Runtime.Exceptions.ConfigurationInitializeException:
Error initializing ELMA configuration---> System.InvalidOperationException:
Failed to connect to the database ---> FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.FbException:
Unable to complete network request to host "127.0.0.1". --->
FirebirdSql.Data.Common.IscException: Unable to complete network request to
host "127.0.0.1".
If such an error occurs, restart ELMA Server. The server restart procedure is described
in point 2.
5. Error: *EleWise.ELMA.Runtime.Exceptions.ConfigurationInitializeException:
Error initializing ELMA configuration ---> System.InvalidOperationException:
Failed to connect to the database ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Unable
to open ELMA database, requested by the entry name. Failed to log on.
If such an error occurs, restart ELMA Server with administrator permissions. To do so,
go to Control Panel – Administrative Tools – Services; find ELMA Server, click it
with the right mouse button and select properties. In the opened dialog box, switch to

3. Possible System Start Errors and Solutions
Log On property page, select This account and enter information on the account with
administrator permissions.
These are the most common errors when starting ELMA. If a different error occurs
when starting ELMA and you cannot fix it on your own, you can ask a question on our
website. To do so, go to http://www.elma-bpm.com/ and click Ask a question in the
top right corner of the page (fig. 25).
