Mae’r ‘Gower Explorer’ arobryn yn fwy na gwasanaeth bws yn unig. Mae’n rhwydwaith
teithio gwyrdd sy’n cysylltu Abertawe ag un o Ardaloedd o Harddwch Naturiol
Eithriadol fwyaf gogoneddus Cymru. Mae llwybrau’r bysus a’r llwybrau cerdded yn
arwain ar draws a thrwy gefn gwlad ac arfordir anghymharol o ran eu harddwch a
hefyd, ceir llawer o safleoedd o ddiddordeb archeolegol a chestyll ac eglwysi o’r canol
oesoedd.

Welcome
Welcome to your 2008/09 guide to bus services in Gower which has been compiled by
the City and County of Swansea.
The award winning `Gower Explorer` is more than a bus service. It’s a green travel
network linking Swansea and one of Wales’ most magnificent Areas of Outstanding
Natural Beauty. Bus routes and walking trails lead into and through countryside and
coastline of incomparable beauty and in addition there are numerous sites of
archaeological interest, medieval castles and churches.
The bus services in this booklet cover all the principal beaches and attractions on
Gower. On Sundays some journeys on Services 118 and 119 can be used as a relaxing
scenic circular tour providing an ideal introduction to the UK’s oldest Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Public Holidays
Normal timetables apply on Good Friday. Sunday timetables apply on Easter Monday,
May Day and Spring Bank Holiday Monday and Late Summer Bank Holiday Monday. Services
do not operate on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Reduced service hours
may operate between Christmas and New Year.

Gower Voluntary Transport

For disabled and elderly housebound people
Gower Voluntary Transport has been set up to provide transport for local disabled and elderly people
who are isolated in their homes because they cant get on or off buses or walk to a bus stop.
We have a team of volunteer drivers to provide lifts to doctors’ surgeries, visiting friends in hospital,
collecting pensions or just to go to the shops - any journey which a resident of Gower could not
make any other way.
To travel with Gower Voluntary Transport you must be unable to travel by bus and you must not have
a car of your own. Passengers must either be retired or of restricted mobility if below retirement age.
Passengers can live anywhere within the Gower area and can travel with an able bodied relative or
friend as an escort, if you need one. As long as a driver is available, destination is not restricted.
Residents can book a lift by telephoning the co-ordinator and stating when and to where they wish to
travel. The co-ordinator will normally be there; at other times there is an answerphone. Please give 48
hours notice - we will make every effort to help, but cannot guarantee always to be available.
Cars are available five days a week between 9.00am and 5.00pm.

HOW GOWER AREA LOCAL BUS SERVICES ARE FUNDED

The majority of local bus services in Gower are funded by the City and County of
Swansea and operated by Veolia Transport Cymru. This includes some funding provided
to the council by the Welsh Assembly Government through its Local
Transport Services Grant.
Most weekday daytime journeys on service 14 are operated by First
on a commercial basis.
The City and County of Swansea, in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly
Government, additionally provides funding for free bus travel for
concessionary pass holders, who qualify on either age or disability
grounds. Information relating to the Council’s Concessionary Fares
Scheme can be obtained from council offices or by telephoning
