a) the sun, moon, Earth, other planets and their
moons, dwarf planets, meteors, asteroids, and
comets
Content
Activity The students will be creating a virtual book on their
selected planet, star, moon, asteroid, or comet.
Each student will be assigned one of the above and
become an expert of that topic. The student will
include pictures to accompany facts and
statements regarding their topic. The virtual book
should include the selected topic, for example
Neptune. It should also contain how their planet,
star, etc., was created, made up from, where it is
located, and other interesting facts. The teacher

will present an example beforehand, explaining
how to use the mobile app: AdoramaPix.
Mobile Application for Collaborating
1st Grade
1.5 The student will investigate and understand
that animals, including humans, have basic needs
and certain distinguishing characteristics. Key
concepts include
a) basic needs include adequate air, food, water,
shelter, and space (habitat);
b) animals, including humans, have many different
physical characteristics; and
c) animals can be classified according to a variety of
characteristics.
The students will be participating in a collaborating
game on the mobile app: ExplainEverything. The
class will join the “Invite and Collaborate” feature
in the app. One joining with the code given, the
teacher will begin the game. The game consists of
the teacher listing features of different animals;
they can vary as basic needs of that animal, what
that animal eats, where it lives, what it looks like,
etc. The students must brainstorm what animal the
teacher is describing. In the app, the students will
draw that animal, for their drawings can change
each time the teacher says a new feature. This
allows the students to collaborate by seeing what

other students are drawing and working together

to guess the correct answer.
