RELATED EXPERIENCE

RESEARCH

Professional experience, Assistant Surveyor, Indian Register of Shipping, Research

and innovation centre, July 2013-Present.

 Analysis of Ship Structures Subjected to Airblast

Methodology is developed to analyse ship structures subjected to airblast loading
considering fluid-structure interaction (FSI) using a nonlinear explicit solver, MSC
Dytran. The developed numerical code is successfully applied to an offshore patrol vessel.

 Analysis of Combatant ships Subjected to Underwater Shock Loading

A theoretical background study of underwater explosion and subsequent numerical

analyses of ship/offshore structures using Patran and Dytran are carried out. Analyses
are restricted to early time events considering primary shock loading, cavitation and
reloading.

 Numerical Simulation of Bubble Phenomenon in Underwater explosion

Numerical simulation of the sequence of events in underwater explosion (bubble
formation, oscillation, migration, and jet impact) is carried out. The methodology is
applied to submerged and floating structures.

 Explosion induced whipping analysis of submarines and ships

A theory of interaction between a gas bubble and a hull girder is developed. The bubble
dynamic equations combined with the bubble migration, free surface effect and drag
force considerations are solved numerically using the Runge–Kutta method. The
impulsive pressure of the gas bubble is considered as input load in the equilibrium
equation of ship hull idealized as beam on elastic foundation.

 Ultimate collapse strength assessment of hull girder

The aim of the project is to establish the hull girder capacity using progressive collapse
analysis of hull girder under bending moments. The ultimate vertical bending moment
capacity of the hull structure is then compared with ANSYS FEA, and IACS CSR methods.

Academic Experience, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Structural Health

Monitoring group, 2012-2013.

 Performance evaluation of vibration based health monitoring algorithms for

metallic plate structure (M.Tech thesis)

Damage identification and quantification of metal structures by means of vibration based

techniques, such as, modal curvature, GSM, GFD, FRF curvature, wavelet transform
coefficient, ULS curvature. The project is extended to incorporate nonlinear acoustic
algorithms like sideband method, PSD, Acoustic moment, and second harmonic method
to detect micro flaws in bolts and welds. Proposed two new modifications to fractal
dimension algorithms in the course of work.

TEACHING

Teaching Assistant, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay, 2011-2013

 Instructed and monitored a group of 105 civil undergraduate students in

structural mechanics laboratory course CE 321 and CE 211 at IITB.

 Taught tutorial classes on Engineering Mechanics to 140 undergraduate first

year students from civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering.

 Paper setter of structural dynamics and engineering mechanics mid-terms and

quizzes.

TRAININGS

 Attended vocational training under Metro Railway Kolkata from 17.05.2010 to

11.06.2010. The training work consisted of extensive survey of the project site, design of
an elevated structure for double line track consisting of superstructure with pre-stressed
concrete box girder.

 Underwent training in ANSYS India, Pune, in Aug 2013 on Mechanical Workbench,

Structural Nonlinearities.

POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 Group leader of 3rd year survey camp and assistant group leader of 2nd year survey
session field work. Instructed a group of 12 students in the survey camp and successfully
completed the extensive survey work of 15 days.

 Undergraduate class representative (2008-2011).

 Team leader and Project manager of Underwater Explosion Research team in Indian
Register of Shipping for the past 2 years.

EXTRA CURRICULUR ACTIVITIES AND HOBBIES

 I am an avid reader of poems, classics and crime stories. The mysticism of Tagore
and, the convoluted plots of Sherlock, and the dystopian novels of Orwell attract me the
most.

 I enjoy playing table tennis after office hours. I enjoy the quick reflex and stamina
required in the game.

 Actively participated in ‘TECHCONNECT’ at TECHFEST 2012, IITBOMBAY. I

demonstrated the principles of shake-table test in dynamics by means of a small shake
table model, and on-line health monitoring of a truss bridge model. Actively participated
in TECHFEST 2013, IITBOMBAY as an organizer.

 Actively participated in Jadavpur University Cultural Festival (Sanskriti, 2009) as an

organizer.
