PIX About this Technical Instruction

Purpose and Target Group

This Technical Instruction describes the replacement of voltage
transformers and fuses of voltage transformers in PIX medium voltage
switchgear panels. It is exclusively intended for the use by manufacturer’s
fitters or persons who have been certified for the assembly of PIX
switchgear panels.
This Technical Instruction is an integral part of the product and must be
stored so that it is at all times readily accessible for and can be used by
persons who are supposed to work on the switchgear. If the switchgear is
sold or replaced, it must be accompanied by this Technical Instruction.
As our products are subject to continuous further development, we reserve
the right to changes regarding standards, illustrations and technical data.
All dimensions not specified in detail in this Technical Instruction are in
millimetres.

PIX 1 Safety Instructions

Read these instructions carefully before you work on the switchgear, and
perform the work detailed in them as described. Only perform such work if
you have understood the instructions. Do not perform any work which is not
described in this manual.
Applicable standards and regulations:
Comply with:
■■ the locally applicable accident prevention, operating and work
instructions.
■■ Installation: IEC 61936-1/HD 637 S11
■■ Operation of electrical installations: EN 50110-11
1
The national standards applicable in the country where the equipment is
to be installed must be complied with.
Before performing work on the panel, make sure to comply with the
following instructions:
Warning:
Before starting work on high-voltage components,
de-energize the system, verify it for zero voltage and
earth the system according to the applicable safety
rules pursuant to EN 50110-1.
Warning:
After removal of covers, operator safety acc. to IEC
62271-200 may be restricted if the appropriate part of
the switchgear unit has not been isolated from the
power supply.
To be in line with IEC 62271-200 the earthing switch
must be switched ON before actuating the
disconnecting device of the HV fuses for withdrawable
voltage transformer in the cable compartment.
Behaviour in case of incidents or accidents
Comply with the locally applicable accident and safety provisions.
In case of personal injury, take first-aid measures or cause them to be
taken.

PIX 2 Design and Description (contd.)

2.2 Use in in accordance with the intended

purpose
PIX medium-voltage switchgear panels and components are exclusively
designed for switching and distributing electrical power. They may only be
used in the scope of the specified standards and the switchgear-specific
technical data. Any other utilization constitutes improper use and may
result in dangers and damage.
The manufacturer shall not be held responsible for damage which occurs if:
■■ instructions in this technical instruction are not complied with,
■■ the switchgear is not operated in accordance with with its intended
purpose (see above),
■■ the switchgear is assembled, connected or operated incorrectly,
■■ accessories or spare parts are used which have not been approved by
the manufacturer,
■■ the switchgear is modified without the manufacturer’s approval, or if
unapproved parts are attached.
No liability is accepted for parts provided by customers, e.g. voltage
transformers.

2.3 Disposal after the end of the panel’s

service life
A material and recycling data sheet can be provided on request for the
disposal of series PIX switchgear at the end of its service life.
Disposal at the end of the service life is performed as a service by the
Service Center at the manufacturer’s which is subject to a fee.

Assembly of the casing

Important:
Before assembly of the casing, specified dimensions have to be checked at certain times/sites (see table below).

If the dimensions in the table or the key interlockings are checked with negative result, do not commission the cable
compartment and the voltage transformer. Contact the manufacturer’s service center.
■■ Check dimension ”A” (Fig. 4.13) before assembly the casing.
■■ For assembly, reverse disassembly procedure analogously. After installation of the casing check dimension ”B”.
■■ Before reassemble the voltage transformer truck check the dimensions “C” and “D”. Fig. 4.13 shows 12 kV type voltage
transformer. 24 kV voltage tranformer is similar, but with partitions between phases and a springtype pin (1) to contact the
voltage transformer. The spring-type pin must be vertical.
■■ Check the functions of the key interlockings, see chapters 3 and 4.1.
■■ Attach the cable compartment cover.

PIX 5 Annex (contd.)

5.4 How to treat the contact surfaces

Detergents and Technical lubricant KL are listed in the table Auxiliary
products in section 4.2.
Important:
Never mix different lubricants. Contact areas coated with lubricant
KL should not be touched, if possible.

Copper contact areas must be subjected to preliminary treatment before

screw-fastening:
■■ Clean, using a lint-free cloth, in case of severe soiling: use detergent.
■■ Polish to achieve a bright surface: Use emery cloth (grain size 100 or
finer) or use a steel brush which is only used for copper.
■■ Immediately after cleaning the material metallically bright, coat it with
lubricant KL so that the space between the contact surfaces is completely
filled once the screws have been fastened.

5.5 Screw fastenings

The following elements must be used for all screw fastenings:
■■ Screws and bolts: Grade ≥ 8.8
■■ Nuts: Grade 8

Important:
Do not grease screws or nuts.
