Conocida como la ¨Gran Ventisca¨ del 88, está también fue una borrasca de grandes
dimensiones que dejo tarjeta de visita desde Nueva Inglaterra hasta la bahía de Chesapeake.
400 personas perdieron la vida durante la tormenta, 100 de ellas en alta mar. A parte de la
increíble cantidad de nieve acumulada y de las bajas temperaturas, el principal problema fue
el fuerte viento. La ciudad de Nueva York estuvo paralizada varios días y en la localidad de
Saratoga Springs cayó cerca de metro y medio.

Algunos la llaman la tormenta del siglo, y es que en marzo de 1993 una gran borrasca azotó
con fuertes vientos y mucha nieve a una gran parte del este de Estados Unidos. De hecho, se
la considera como la de mayor tamaño en cuanto a dimensiones, afectando a un total de
26 estados desde la frontera de Canadá hasta el estado de Alabama. Murieron 276 habitantes
en toda la región, y una de las más afectadas por la inmensa cantidad de nieve acumulada fue
la de las montañas Apalaches.
Boston, EEUU – 1978 (69 cm)
Boston ha sido una de las ciudades del mundo más castigadas por la nieve durante los dos
últimos inviernos. Se han batido algunos récords, pero no se ha superado el de la cantidad de
nieve caída en un solo día correspondiente al 17 de febrero de 2003 cuando se acumularon
más de 70 cm de nieve. Sin embargo, aunque la tormenta de febrero de 1978 registro
espesores algo inferiores, fue mucho más devastadora, cobrándose la vida de 100 personas.

Known as the ¨Great Blizzard¨ of 88, is also a large storm that

left a business card from New England to the Chesapeake
Bay. 400 people lost their lives during the storm, 100 of them
at sea. Apart from the incredible amount of accumulated snow
and low temperatures, the main problem was the strong wind.
The city of New York was paralyzed several days and in the
town of Saratoga Springs fell about five feet.

1993 a great storm lashed with strong winds and much snow
to a large part of the eastern United States. In fact, it is
considered the largest in terms of size, affecting a total of 26
states from the Canadian border to the state of Alabama. 276
inhabitants died throughout the region, and one of the most
affected by the immense amount of snow accumulated was
the Appalachian Mountains.

Boston has been one of the cities in the world most hit by
snow during the last two winters. Some records have been
broken, but the amount of snow fallen in a single day
corresponding to February 17, 2003 when more than 70 cm of
snow accumulated has not been exceeded. However,
although the storm of February 1978 registered somewhat
lower thicknesses, it was much more devastating, claiming the
lives of 100 people.
