LEED Requirement Information

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has produced the LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. The LEED Rating System takes into
consideration practices relevant to the natural environment, such as the preference for using
sustainable resources, conservation of nonsustainable resources, and reduction of pollution.

The USGBC has established a system for quantifying the measures taken toward building a
greener building and then rewarding participants by recognizing their efforts as measured by the
LEED system.

Formica supports the efforts of conservation and green buildings and would like to provide the
specifiers, designers, builders and owners with relevant information about our products.

The LEED CI Rating System Version 2 sections that are applicable to our product contributions
are under Materials & Resources; Recycled Content (Credit 4), Local/Regional Materials (Credit
5), and Indoor Environmental Quality; Low-Emitting Materials (Credit 4.1) (EQ Credit 4.5)

Recycled Content (MR Credit 4.1 & Credit 4.2)

Use materials, including Division 12 (Furniture and Furnishings), with recycled content such
that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer
(post-industrial) content constitutes at least 20% of the total value of the materials in the project.

Formica Brand Laminates contain a minimum weighted average of 20% post-industrial recycled
content material.

Local/Regional Materials (MR Credit 5.1)

Use a minimum of 20% of the combined value of construction and Division 12 (Furniture and
Furnishings)materials and products that are manufactured regionally within a radius of 500
miles. (1 point)

Formica Brand Laminates are manufactured in three locations: Cincinnati OH, Sacramento CA,
and St. Jean sur Richelieu Quebec Canada.

Local/Regional Materials (MR Credit 5.2)

Use a minimum of 10% of the combined value of construction and Division 12 (Furniture and
Furnishings) materials and products extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured,
within 500 miles of the project site. (1 point)

The filler paper that is used in Formica Brand laminates is harvested and processed at a paper
mill that is located in Savanna GA.

LEED Requirement Information (continued)

Certified Wood (MR Credit 7)

When using new wood-based products and materials, use a minimum of 50% that are certified in
accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s principles and Criteria. Division 12
(Furnishings & Furniture) material value is included in the determination of the certified wood
content.

The filler paper used in Formica Brand Laminates is provided by a company who is third party
certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard.

Low-Emitting Materials: Adhesives & Sealants (EQ Credit 4.1)

The VOC content of adhesives and sealants used must be less than the current VOC content
limits of South Coast Air Quality Management District Rule #1168, and all sealants used as
fillers must meet or exceed the requirements of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District
Regulation 8, Rule 51.

Formica Brand Laminate can be installed with adhesive systems that meet the requirements
listed by this section. Contact adhesives manufacturers for product data and application
procedures.

Low-Emitting Materials: Composite Wood and Laminate Adhesives (EQ Credit 4.4)
Composite wood and agrifiber products, including core materials, must contain no added /
urea-formaldehyde resins. Adhesives used to fabricate in field and shop applied assemblies
containing these products must contain no urea-formaldehyde. Products covered by EQ Credit
4.5, Low-Emitting Materials, System Furniture and Seating shall be excluded from these
requirements.

Formica Brand Adhesives do not contain urea-formaldehyde resins.

Low-Emitting Materials: Furniture and Furnishings (EQ Credit 4.5)

Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous or potentially irritating and/or
harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and occupants.

All systems furniture and seating introduced into the project space that has been manufactured,
refurbished or refinished within one year prior to occupancy must meet one of the requirements
below. Option A: Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified.

Formica Brand Laminates have been tested and have achieved Greenguard Indoor Air Quality
Certification.

Certification No: HF2Ls93511-1 (laminate) & HF2Ls93511-2 (DecoMetal)
