Reflection Paper

In the class the part that was most enjoyable for me would be the social experiment

discussions. It gave us as students opportunities, sometimes an excuse, to see what other people

think. Especially with a topic like the psychological disorders, which is something that isn’t

commonly talked about. The discussions also gave us an opportunity to discuss amongst

ourselves each topic learned that week. Allowing us to gain different insights and opinions, and

helping improve our perspective on each topic.

I have a love-hate relationship with the essay that we had to write midway through the

semester. I disliked it because it felt time consuming and it becomes tough already when you feel

as if you don’t have much time to accomplish everything. Although, I did enjoy it because it

helped give me a reason to research the psychology of happiness. Which I felt was very

intriguing because often, like how we discussed in this last week, psychologist will study what is

wrong with someone and how to fix it. In my research of it related a lot to positive psychology

and that different research studies found that the most successful ways to obtain more happiness

was to do things like become more optimistic. A topic like this, to me, is incredibly relatable; as I

discussed in my paper at one point I felt depressed and in a position where I was searching on

ways to obtain happiness. In today’s society I believe that the study of happiness and psychology

could be extremely beneficial in today’s world because we often find people who are either

depressed or in search of happiness itself. Thanks to this class it has helped sparked my interest

into this topic.

Other than the essay I didn’t have much to dislike, as for me I always tried to find

something about each subject that interested me and use that as a driving factor to pass the class.

I appreciated the way the professor ran the online course. It was incredibly organized; I didn’t

struggle whatsoever trying to find my way around canvas. The professor was on top of

everything, at one point she mistakenly didn’t post one of the modules. She reached out to me to

let me know of her mistake and offered assistance with that week’s topic, if I needed it. To me

that goes along way, I have taken many online courses and there is often a disconnect between

teachers and students. With her reaching out to me that makes me feel more comfortable to reach

out to her if I did need assistance. It shows that the professor is willing to be interacting with

students which helped dissolve that disconnect feeling. The way that she posted grades

constantly helps a lot too because that eases the mental burden that students have of how well

their doing; and where they need to work harder. Overall the course was very enjoyable and

helped expand my knowledge of psychology in a positive experience.
