ABSTRACT

Searching for images from a large scale database of images remains one of the
challenging tasks till date. One of the popular methods is using content based
image retrieval techniques in order to analyze the actual content of the image. One
of the effective strategies among this existing image retrieval is the RETIN
system, which performs well in comparison to other active strategies. However,
RETIN has certain shortcomings like it is more focused towards only one type of
feature extraction (shape). In order to speed up the retrieval process, in this
project we propose an algorithm which in addition to the basic functionalities
gives more importance to the relevance feedback and incorporates features like
shape and color to rank images. This method is proposed to accept multiple queries
at one time to speed up the retrieval process. Also two feedback methods are
applied for retrieval process, one is cluster method in which user labeled Yes
will be considered for retrieving images. Another type is Multi Class, in which the
options Yes and No are preferred for retrieving images. It is expected that
once this strategy has been implemented it will lead us to a fast and efficient
active learning scheme for image retrieval.
