PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW

Gracious God, I give you thanks that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the
Father in eternity, and also a true human being, born of the virgin Mary, is
my Lord. He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned human being. He has
purchased and freed me from all sins, from death, and from the power of
the devil, not with gold or silver but with his holy, precious blood and with
his innocent suffering and death. Fill me and all people with your Holy
Spirit, that belonging to him we may trust in him, live under him in his
kingdom, and serve him in eternal righteousness, innocence, and
blessedness, just as he is risen from the dead and lives and rules eternally.
Amen!
Lord Jesus Christ, you came to reveal God’s eternal and unfailing love for
all people.
We pray:
The congregation sings “Kyrie eleison.”

You came to heal the contrite of heart, to save sinners, and to show us the
way of abundant life.
We pray:

Almighty God has given Christ Jesus to live and to die for us, and in his
name God forgives us all our sins. God the Father strengthen you with the
Holy Spirit, that + Christ Jesus may live in your hearts by faith and show
forth in your loving service to all.
Amen.

A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN

FIRST READING: 2 Samuel 11:26--12:13a

God sends the prophet Nathan to rebuke King David for his abuse of power
in taking Bathsheba and killing her husband, Uriah. Confronted with his
sin, David repents. This sin, however, marks the beginning of troubled
times in David’s family.
26
When the wife of Uriah heard that her husband was dead, she made PSALM 51:1-12

brought her to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. Refrain:

the LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There

man had very many flocks and herds; 3but the poor man had nothing but
one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. He brought it up, and it grew up Tone:

own flock or herd to prepare for the wayfarer who had come to him, but he

SECOND READING: Ephesians 4:1-16 GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Christians share fundamental unity and diversity. Our unity consists in the
one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God. Our
diversity is expressed in various forms of ministry, whose goal is equipping
the saints and building up Christ’s one body.
1
I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the
calling to which you have been called, 2with all humility and gentleness,
with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3making every effort to
maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4There is one body and
one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, 5one GOSPEL: John 6:24-35

HYMN OF THE DAY I Am the Bread of Life (ELW 485) ANNOUNCEMENTS

CREED OFFERTORY ‘Meditation on 'Bread of Life' by Gregory Hamilton

As they recite the creed, worshippers are invited to bow beginning with the
words “born of the virgin Mary,” until the words “he descended to the OFFERTORY HYMN: Create in Me a Clean Heart (ELW 186)
dead.”

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at
the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and
the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of
saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Trusting in our loving and almighty Lord Jesus who abundantly provides
the bread of life to all who hunger, and who calls us to turn toward God and
one another, let us pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need.
Please sit or kneel as you are able.
Each petition ends with:
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
OFFERING PRAYER

Let us pray.
O God, all that we have and all that we are come through you. We offer
back in thanksgiving a portion of what you have given us: our time, our
work, and our wealth. With them we dedicate our whole lives to the care
and redemption of all that you have made, through Jesus Christ, who gave
himself for us and for the salvation of the whole world. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Amen. Worshippers are invited to bow with the consecration of the Lord’s body
and blood, each time the words “Do this for the remembrance of me,” are
DIALOGUE spoken.

Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In
great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick
and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross,
opened his arms to all.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave
thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is
my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and
for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await

his coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and
PREFACE unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of
Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY and glory, now and forever.
Amen.

LORD'S PRAYER

Risen and ascended Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to

pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION SONG DURING DISTRIBUTION: Give Me Jesus (ELW 770)

This is the table of the Lord. It is made ready for those who love Jesus, and
for those who want to love him more. So come, you who have much faith
and you who have little, you who have been here often and you who have
not been here long, you who have tried to follow and you who have failed.
Come, because it is the Lord who invites you. It is his will that those who
want him should meet him here.

Lutherans believe, teach and confess that we receive the true Body and
Blood of Christ in Holy Communion. If you desire to pick up the cross and
live in Christ, we hope you will receive with us. Even if you do not feel
prepared to receive the sacrament today we hope you will join us at the
table. Simply hold your hands over your heart and the pastor will give you
a blessing. Pastor will be glad to discuss Holy Communion and Holy
Baptism with you!

COMMUNION

The body of Christ, given for you.

The blood of Christ, shed for you.
Amen.

LAMB OF GOD (ELW 196)

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

O God, our life, our strength, our food, we give you thanks for sustaining
us with the body and blood of your Son. By your Holy Spirit, enliven us to
be his body in the world, that more and more we will give you praise and
serve your earth and its many peoples, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and
Lord.
Amen.
