effect we really have. We look

our example to find the power

A Young Disciple
This is Anya. She is a young
believer who was delivered
from drug addiction though
the ministry of the
Cornerstone Church rehab
center outside of Nizhny
Novgorod.
We first met Anya just a little
over one year ago. She had
just arrived at the center,
everything was new and
strange to her and she was
not feeling well from the
effects of withdrawal. We
always have hope for those
just entering and we pray that
they will find Christ and the
freedom which they desire.
Some do, some donʼt.

Each week as we taught at
the center we began to get to
know Anya and we really had
hopes that she would
complete the course and
follow Christ as a disciple.
November and December of
2009 we were traveling and
we wondered if Anya would
still be in her rehab course.
We returned in time to
celebrate the New Year and
much to our joy she she was
not only continuing on, but the
transformation taking place in
her was beautifully evident.
In late spring we saw Anya
graduate from the second
step (4 mos.) and watched
her as she became one of the
team leaders at the center,
encouraging and discipling
the young women as they
entered their first course of
rehabilitation.
During the summer Anya told
us with great excitement that
she was planning to join a
team of young people and go
off to Bible school in the fall.
We were very pleased to hear
this news.

older than 2.5 years in Christ! Most have been
believers for less than two years. By faith they
will all attend Bible/missionary training school,
and then go to their chosen city. There they will
also live by faith with some of the team taking
part-time jobs to help support the church
planting efforts.

Before Anya left for school she had a chance to

talk with Karen a little bit about the impact we
have had upon her life. We were humbled and
delighted to hear her say how much of an
impact we had on her life. “The first time I Preaching & teaching in Ekaterinburg
heard Michael teach was only 3-4 days after I
arrived at the rehab center. When he taught,
suddenly, everything began to make sense to
me. From that that point that I began to grow
and learn how to follow Christ.”

We often feel as if we are able to spend so little

time with the new rehabilitants. We are often
surprised by the simple things that we have
done which impact their lives. It is gratifying to
hear a testimony like Anyaʼs from time to time.
