Week 1
AWAKENED TO HUNGER FOR MORE

We were created to desire God, deep within each of us is a longing for God.
You were created to experience and know the depths of God, to walk in an intimate
relationship with Him and to experience His love and power. He alone can satisfy the
longing of your heart.

David and the writers of Psalms express this:

• (Psalm 63:1-2) 0 God, You are my God: Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for
You; My flesh longs for You, in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I
have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.

• (Psalm 84:1-2) How lovely is Your tabernacle, 0 Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes,
even faints for the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living
God.

• (Psalm 42:1-2) As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O
God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear
before God?

God wants to awaken us to the ‘more’ that is available.

We live in the tension of being satisfied yet hungry; grateful yet wanting more.
It’s a continual hunger because it’s a continual relationship of searching out the
depths of God and His Kingdom.

• Hunger moves the heart of God. God responds to genuine hunger.

(Matt 5:6) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they
shall be filled.

• Hunger puts a focus in our lives.

• Hunger moves us from a place of convenience to a place of sacrifice.

Discussion:
1. Describe a time where you’ve experienced being hungry or stirred for more of
God. And what contributed/s to cultivating/ stirring hunger even more?

2. What are you currently stirred about/ hungering to experience more of Him?
And if you don’t feel like you’re currently stirred / hungering, where would you like
to see an increase?

1
Week 1
AWAKENED TO HUNGER FOR MORE

3. What keeps us from cultivating and living in a place of satisfaction yet

continually hungering for more?

4. What does hunger look like on a daily basis lived out in our practical, everyday
life?

5. What does it look like to inspire and stir up hunger within your family, your friend
group, your workplace, or other spheres of influence?

Personal Activation:
Act on the things you discussed that help cultivate hunger this week.

Spend time around someone who is stirred / hungry. Listen to their stories and
experiences with God.

Watch and read about videos or testimonies of revival.

Engage with the resources that we recommend below.

Scripture:
• One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of
the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him
in his temple. (Psalm 27:4)

• You, God, are my God; earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs
for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the
sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than
life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I
will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with
singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you
through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow
of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. (Psalm 63:1-8)

• My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry
out for the living God. (Psalm 84:2)

• As the deer pants for the streams of water, so my soul pants for you my God
(Psalm 42:1)

2
Week 1
AWAKENED TO HUNGER FOR MORE

• At night my soul longs for You, indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently
(Isaiah 26:9)

• Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled
(Matt 5:6)

• If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink (John 7:37)

• But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him
with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deut 4:29)

Week 2
AWAKENED TO THE FATHER’S HEART

How we see the Father affects everything.

Our understanding of and connection to the Father is so important that Jesus’ main
purpose was to reveal the Father to us.

There is a vacuum in the heart of every person...for love/acceptance...for a father.

And we can take any issue we see at play in the world around us and trace it back at
the core to this need.

The Father’s heart and love is such a critical thing for us to be awakened to, and the
beauty is that we live a life of response to His love and His heart.

The Father’s acceptance and love for us, His care and giving of good things to us is
not contingent on our performance or perfection--what we do or don’t do, or even our
expression of love or our attitude toward Him. His love is decidedly, unchangingly
aimed toward us, and completely available to us.

There is always more--no matter what our experience has already been, continued
connection to and refreshing of His love is what sustains and empowers all of us.
Our primary responsibility, and the most fruitful thing we can do for ourselves, our
families, and the world around us is keep ourselves in the love of God (Jude 1 :21)
As we continue to see Him rightly and experience His heart, we will become more and
more like Him. And then that is what we will reflect to the world around us--who He is
to us, He will be through us to others.

He chose and created us to be sons and daughters. We can’t unchoose, separate

from, or destroy that reality because His choice is what establishes and defines us.
Everything else can fail or fade away, but our reality of being beloved sons and
daughters is unshakable. This is our permanent place of security, joy, and fruitfulness.

Discussion:
1. How have you experienced the Father’s love in a way that really impacted you?
(Share experiences, encounters, other people demonstrating what He’s like, etc.)

2. Is there anything else He’s been showing or speaking to you during our time
together?

3. This session began with the statement “How we see the Father affects
everything.” How have you seen or experienced this?

4
Week 2
AWAKENED TO THE FATHER’S HEART

4. Were there any of the “You’ll never hear God say” items or orphan traits that you
related to?

5. What does it look like for you to carry and be a reflection of the Father’s heart to
others? Where is He asking you to be proactive and intentional in doing that?

Personal Activation:
Take time to reflect on what you believe about the Father. Ask Him if you have any
misconceptions about Him. Release any lies and embrace the truth He shows you.

Take time to listen to how the Father specifically wants to love you this week. Look
for and thank Him for the ways you recognize His heart being expressed toward you.

Continue to personally reflect on the traits of sonship vs. orphan posture below.
Identify and celebrate where you see that you have really caught what it is to live as a
son/daughter, and invite the Father to bring His love and truth to the areas you still
see orphan tendencies in your life.

Ask the Father what people or situations He wants you to engage with to reveal His
heart.

Engage with the resources that we recommend below.

Scripture:
• For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you
received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit
you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba,
Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
(Rom 8:14-16)

• For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in
heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the
riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner
man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being
rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what
is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ
which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
(Eph 3:14-19)

5
Week 2
AWAKENED TO THE FATHER’S HEART

• For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any
other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in
Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 8:38-39)

• The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice
over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love; He will exult over you with
loud singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

• But you, 0 L ord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in
steadfast love and faithfulness. (Psalm 86:15)

• We love because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)

• But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us. (Rom 5:8)

• As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love. (John 15:9)

TRAITS OF SONSHIP POSTURE VS. ORPHAN POSTURE

The way we live when we are awakened to the Father’s heart and settled in His love is
different:

• Sons live from love, acceptance and approval. Sons are at rest in themselves and
comfortable in their own skin.
- Orphans strive for approval, are insecure, jealous, overcompensating,
comparing, competing, lacking in healthy self-worth.
• Sons don’t strive to make a way for themselves. Sons are generous. They freely
give opportunities/resources.
- Orphans work to earn position, prove themselves, fight for what they think are
their rights, resources, and opportunities, and withhold.
• Sons are committed to the success of others. Sons seek to serve, bless, and
build others up. Sons celebrate when others surpass them.
- Orphans are jealous of the success of others, use people for what benefits
themselves, and need to feel better than everyone else (might even tear others
down to accomplish this).

6
Week 2
AWAKENED TO THE FATHER’S HEART

• Sons are secure in their value and know their value is NOT in what they do. Sons
are content to serve in whatever capacity they are needed. Sons are fine whether
or not they are in charge. Sons celebrate in the process.
- Orphans seek validation from people and positions they deem significant.
Orphans have difficulty celebrating other people’s blessings, opportunities,
affirmations.
• Sons aren’t afraid of making mistakes-they lean into connection instead of
hiding.
- Orphans are afraid of punishment, rejection, disconnection--they partner
themselves with a sense of abandonment, loneliness, alienation, and isolation.
• Sons are comfortable asking for what they need/want. Sons ask for help--they
are comfortable accessing what is available to them and when they need
someone else’s assistance.
- Orphans rarely invite help. Orphans control and manipulate circumstances and
people to get what they need/want.
• Sons ask questions, are vulnerable, postured to learn, and comfortable in the
process.
- Orphans try to figure things out themselves. Orphans tend toward
self-protective independence/self-sufficiency and are resistant to reveal that
they may not know something. Orphans say everything’s okay even when it
isn’t.
• Sons choose to lean into pain and know how to connect with God’s love and
presence for comfort, and even experience joy in the process.
- Orphans try to avoid, stuff down, and medicate pain-- with work, relationships,
substances, etc. creating unhealthy cycles instead of freedom and life.
• Sons are secure and humble--they openly invite and receive feedback. Sons seek
out input and wise counsel.
- Orphans resist feedback and become dismissive or defensive because their
sense of value is threatened.
• Sons trust and release, take risks and dream, enjoy the journey and have fun!
- Orphans self-protect, scrutinize, grip, and control-- they are focused on
surviving, driven by fear to either make themselves a small target, or to ‘attain’
without ever being fulfilled.

Week 3
AWAKENED TO CHRIST IN US

When we received Jesus, we received a new nature-we are no longer slaves to sin,
we are partakers of the divine nature (2 Pet 1 :4). Although you may struggle with
something, it’s not your identity.

God doesn’t look at us and see what’s wrong with us. He sees where we are lacking
experience in His nature, and He draws near to reveal that to us.

Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col. 1 :27)

The church has tried for centuries to shame people into holy living instead of
summoning them into their glory.

Christ in us positions us to reign in life!

For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more
those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign
in life through the One, Christ Jesus (Rom 5:17)

Because Christ is in you, all the fullness of His deity dwells in you in bodily form (Col 2:9)
When we are awakened to who we are and what we carry, we walk in confidence,
freedom, and power.

When we are “sin conscious,” we can get trapped in a cycle of self-focus and
disqualifying ourselves.

If we don’t know the power of Christ in us, we won’t engage situations that are bigger
than our own abilities.

Every bit of the life Jesus lived is available to us--the connection with the Father, the
power to heal and set people free, and the power to release miracles, signs and
wonders.

Discussion:
1. What was He showing you during the time of reflection? What declarations or
words especially stood out to you to internalize more fully, and why?

2. What are ways you cultivate awareness of and live out the revelation of Christ in
you?

3. How have you experienced the revelation of Christ in you in regards your gifts,
sense of power and authority?

10
Week 3
AWAKENED TO CHRIST IN US

4. What is an area (situation, relationship) that you will proactively release life into
with this fresh awakening to Christ in you?

Personal Activation:
Ask the Lord to show you His perspective of you--ask Him to show you how you carry
and reflect His nature. Ask Him to show you what’s possible because Christ is in you.

Step out and activate your gifts, power and authority that flow from Christ in you (Ex.
release healing, prophetic encouragement, wisdom and solutions from the Holy Spirit,
etc.)

Any challenge you come up against, visualize the “fullness of deity” in you and see
how that changes your feeling about it and approach to it.

Engage with the resources that we recommend below.

Scripture:
• Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone,
the new is here! (2 Car 5:17)

• He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become
the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Car 5:21)

• For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more
those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will
reign in life through the One, Christ Jesus. (Rom 5:17)

• Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Col. 1 :27)

• Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.
(Rom 8:17)

• Your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:32)

• He gives the Spirit without measure. (John 3:34)

• He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you
may become partakers of the divine nature. (2 Pet 1 :4)

Week 4
AWAKENED TO THE HARVEST

God has desires--there are things that are on God’s heart. If we ourselves are going to
be awakened, it’s because our hearts have encountered His heart. If there is a desire
on God’s heart, we want to know what it is, and we want our hearts to be awakened to
that desire as well. One of those desires is for the harvest and for those who don’t
know Him.

God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Tim
2:1-4)

Jesus tells us to pray for laborers because God has a heart for the harvest. (Matthew
9:37-38)

God wants to awaken your heart to the harvest.

We see in many men and women, people who were deeply committed to God, and it
resulted in a commitment and passion for the harvest.

The more we’re with Him, the more that His heart beats next to ours, the more our
heart beats in sync with His around this issue.

Listening to people’s stories of salvation can help us come alive to this passion.
If we are passionate about Jesus, we will continually run into the fact that He is in
pursuit of people who don’t know Him.

Discussion:
1. Did anyone relate when Banning mentioned the sense of “should” or “need” to
have a desire for the harvest?

2. How can we practically connect more with God’s heart for the lost?

3. What have you found can be barriers to engaging with the lost, and what can
you do to shift or push past those things?

4. What are some beautiful salvation experiences you’ve witnessed or heard about
that have ignited or connected you to God’s heart for the harvest?

5. What could it look like for you to engage the lost more in your day to day life?

13
Week 4
AWAKENED TO THE HARVEST

Personal Activation:
Incorporate into your time of prayer and connection with God asking Him for His
heart and perspective about people who don’t know Him. Link your heart to His in a
place of prayer.

Get around someone who loves the lost, listen to them share, go with them as they
engage the lost, glean from them until it rubs off on you.

Listen to people’s stories of coming to know Jesus--let the beauty of what Jesus’ love
does in our lives inspire you to be a conduit to others who don’t know Him.

Intentionally posture yourself to be available in new ways to impact people in your

spheres of influence.

Engage with the resources that we recommend below.

Scripture:
• For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost. (Luke 19:10)

• Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt 28:18-20)

• For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

• The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to
proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to

comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion-to bestow on
them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and
a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of
righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. They will
rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew
the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. (Is. 61:1-4)

14
Week 4
AWAKENED TO THE HARVEST

• The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient
toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
(2 Pet. 3:9)

• Then He said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His
harvest. (Matthew 9:37-38)

• I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be
made for all people -- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases
God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of
the truth. (1 Tim 2:1-4)

Week 5
AWAKENED TO DREAM WITH GOD FOR IMPACT

We’re convinced that God wants to pour out His spirit and send revival to cities and
campuses, to workplaces and culture, and that He wants to use your life to do it. You
are a key part in God’s plan. But our lives need to be awakened. Your life is called to
make an impact.

The kingdom of God is inside of you. The kingdom has come, and it has “clothed”
your life around it.

You were never meant to sit on the sidelines--you were always meant to be in the
game. You are meant to be a “game changer.”

One of the main ways that God is going to use your life in partnership with Him in a
lasting impact in nations is through dreaming.

Many of us no longer dream because we’ve had disappointing situations happen,

we’ve been let down before, we’ve been frustrated, we’ve tried something that didn’t
work, we’ve experienced failure, let down, hurt or pain, so we’ve slowly shut down our
ability to dream. But God is awakening in our life again the ability to dream because
we cannot partner with God apart from dreaming.

God has placed you exactly where you are to dream and partner with Him to see His
kingdom come and His will be done in every area of society. You are called to bring
solutions to society ‘s problems.

One of the most natural parts of being created in the image of God is the ability to
dream. It’s a God given gift. Yet many believers, in their attempts to please God, kill
the very capacity He gave them. They reason, ‘To really please God, I must get rid of
everything to do with self!” It sounds spiritual to many, but it’s more Buddhist than
Christian. If we pursue that line of thinking for long, we end up with neutered
believers. Self-mutilation need not be physical to be a perversion. Anytime we try to cut
away what God placed in us, we are entering a form of spirituality that the Scriptures do
not support, and are contributing to a spirit that works against us having a truly effective
witness. It is not wise to crucify the resurrected man and call it discipleship. The Cross
is not for the new man; it’s for the old man (Rom 6:5-9) Many have even prayed, “None
of me, all of You.” God had none of us before we were born and didn’t like it. He created
us for His pleasure. A better prayer would be, “All of me covered by all of You.” (Pg. 37
Dreaming With God by Bill Johnson)

16
Week 5
AWAKENED TO DREAM WITH GOD FOR IMPACT

Discussion:
1. What dreams or desires have you had and seen God partner with you in?

2. What did He show you during our time of reflecting?

3. What is helpful in cultivating a lifestyle of dreaming with God?

4. What dreams / desires do you currently have that you are leaning into?

5. What need in the world around you would you like to see a solution to that you
can dream with God about?

Personal Activation:
Continue reflecting with the Lord on any areas in your heart that may need to be
revived with hope and truth. Allow Him to tend to those places and reopen your heart
to dream/desire.

Get around people who dream with God and let them help awaken you.

Take a practical step that you are able to do toward a dream/desire you have.

Consider this quote from Bill Johnson’s book Dreaming with God:
“Someone with a Kingdom mindset looks to the overwhelming needs of the world and
says, ‘God has a solution for this problem. And I have legal access to His realm of
mystery. Therefore I will seek Him for the answer!”’
Identify where you have been seeing a need or problem and begin to dream with God
about possible solutions.

Engage with the resources that we recommend below.

Scripture:
• Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
(Ps 37:4)

• A desire fulfilled is a tree of life. (Prov 13:12)

• Nothing will be impossible with God. (Luke 1 :37)

17
Week 5
AWAKENED TO DREAM WITH GOD FOR IMPACT

• I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s
business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my
Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and
appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that
whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. (John 15:15-16)

• Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think,
according to the power at work within us. (Eph 3:20)

• Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what
he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, ‘Since the day I
brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of
Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, but I have chosen
David to rule my people Israel.’ “My father David had it in his heart to build a
temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. (1 Kings 8:1 5-17)

• Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even
greater things than these. (John 14:12)
