c

 Final Project
From the list of 8 activities ʹ each of which corresponds to a different element of fiction, select three (3) and complete
them.

Overview of activities:

1. x ʹ create a Facebook page for a character of c. What are their status updates, comments, etc. Who are
their friends? What is included in their info section? Be as detailed as possible. You do not have to do this digitally. You
may use butcher paper (that I can provide) or poster board. You must stay true to your character.

2. G ʹ design and build a 3-D version of a setting in c. This activity could be done like a diorama. However, you
are not limited to the diorama format.

3. x
ʹ for anyone with a flair for creative writing. We never meet Dill outside of Maycomb, even though he spends
most of his life in Meridian. Select two types of conflict for Dill to face back home in Meridian. What type of conflicts
might he face at home? At school? You must stay true to Dill͛s character. Must be at least two pages handwritten or
typed double-spaced.

4. ʹ Determine two themes for c ʹ one major and one minor ʹ and create an editorial cartoon that depicts
each theme. You will create two cartoons in all. Be creative. Your illustrations can reflect your individual understanding
of the theme. In other words, do not feel like you have to draw the characters/settings of c to fulfill this activity,
although you are more than welcome to use them. Please caption your drawing with a correctly stated theme.

5. Ô ʹ write an alternate ending to TKaM. Keeping in mind what we know about the characters and the setting, how
might this story have turned out differently? Does Tom Robinson get an appeal? Does Boo not save Jem and/or Scout?
Does Heck Tate decide to tell the public about what really happened to Bob Ewell? Use the plot diagram to construct
your ending. You must have a clear exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Must be at least two
pages handwritten or typed double-spaced.

6. G ʹ Create a character life box for a major character (Scout, Jem, Atticus, Boo, Dill). A character life box is a
container of carefully chosen items that represent a particular character. The box must contain five to seven things that
the character might use daily or have as a keepsake. You will write one short essay to justify each item included in the
box. No photosͶitems only. A shoebox is a good container, but other appropriate containers are okay (pillowcase,
cigar box, purse, etc.), particularly if they support character analysis

7. Ô
ʹ re-write a section of the novel from Atticus͛ point of view. During the novel, we never hear Atticus͛
thoughts or feelings directly. Based on what you know about his character, what might he be thinking or feeling during
certain moments. Please use narrative form ʹ or writing that tells a story. Some nice moments to think about are: any
scene where he interacts with Mr. Ewell, when he is gearing up to shoot the rabid dog, or any other scene that you
particularly liked. Must be at least 2 pages handwritten or double-spaced typed.

If the thought of a creative project stirs panic, you may choose to do a study guide of choosing three of the
above projects.

For this study guide, you must find examples from TKaM that correspond to each element of fiction. Use your notes on
the elements of fiction as a guide. Explain each answer. Use complete statements.
G Provide one example of each type of setting. If a type of setting has more than one example, include as many
examples as possible.
x In addition to finding examples for each type of character, please characterize Scout, Jem, Atticus, and Boo
using a minimum of three complete sentences for each character.
Ô Diagram the plot of TKaM. Explain your each part of your diagram.
x
Provide an example of each type of conflict and explain how each moment in the story is a good example of its
particular type of conflict.
Ô What is the POV of TKaM and how does it affect the story? How might the story be different if told from a different
POV?
Correctly state one major theme and two minor themes of TKaM. Explain how each is a theme. Use examples
from the text.
G Find three symbols in TKaM. Explain how each is a symbol and what it is a symbol of.
