You are a youth leader and your task is to lead the singing of the Philippine National Anthem on independence day. The target audience is the

Stage 3: LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Day 2

A. Objective: At the end of a 50 minute period, the learners should have:

1. discussed the concept of a nation;
2. gave examples of a nation;

4. classified the Philippines based on the Classifications of Nations.

B. Topic: Concept of a Country

C. Procedure
I. Motivation

The teacher will ask the learners to write inside the circle on the chalkboard the countries/nations they have visited or known so far.

Processing Question: What countries/nations have you visited or have you known so far?

II. Presentation
Processing Question: Did you include the Philippines?

The teacher will tell the learners that the focus of the chapter is about the Philippines and will give some facts about our country.

III. Discussion
The teacher will ask the leaners about their ideas on the word country and give the established meaning and classifications of nations.

Nation –a territory of a community of people belonging to one race, has history, language, culture and government (UP Diksyonaryong
Pilipino).

- It is consists of a group of people living in a specific place and is binded by language, tradition, practices, and history (AghamPanlipunan).
Classifications of Nations (examples will be revealed after the group activity)

A. According to the extent and its land coverage

1. Small – Vatican City, Gilbrartar, Nauru, Tubalu, San Marino

2. Medium – the Philippines, Japan, Italy, Poland, Malaysia, Zimbabwe

3. Large –China, Canada, Brazil, Australia, United States

B. According to land type

1. An Island – countries composed of a single island.

- Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Jamaica, Cuba, Iceland

2. Group of Islands (Archipelago) – countries composed of group of islands.

- The Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Maldives

3. Peninsula – those where land parts are in the water

- Korea, India, Spain, Portugal

4. Mainland – those countries that can be found to the continent where it belong

- Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, China, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria

IV. Application
Group Activity
Each growth community will get their world map and proceed to their designated stations. They will be given five minutes to list
down countries under Classification A (small, medium, and large) and Classification B (an island, archipelago, peninsula, and mainland).
The teacher will check their work.
 V. Generalization
The teacher will facilitate the generalization by asking the learners: Processing Questions: What concept of a nation did you learn?

How would you classify the Philippines?

VI. Evaluation
Classify the countries inside the box into Classification A (small, medium, or large) and Classification B (an island, archipelago, peninsula,
or mainland). Do it on your one whole sheet of pad paper. Two points for every correct answer.

Example: Japan – Medium/Archipelago – 2 pts
