Movement/Chime Mounting: When you are ready to mount the movement, take ‘a moment to tighten all of the nuts that secure the four movement mounting brackets to each comer (on the front surlace of the movement). The #13095 movement will need to be attached to a piece of wood commonly colled a dial board. Generally the dial board will span the inside length and width of the case, ‘and have a minimum thickness of 5/16" 3/8". The dial board will require a 4- 3/4" diameter cut-out (or thru hole), to allow the gears of the movement clearance with the dial board. The movement must be mounted centered over the 4-3/4" thru hole. You will find a single shest instruction (130958) enclosed with your movement. This sheet will contain recommended inside clock case dimensions as well as a dimensioned diagram for the dial board cuFout. The dial, or clock face, would mount to the front surface of the dial board (covering the 43/4" thru hole). Once the dicl has been mounted, you may secure the movement to the backside of the dia! board [inside the clock case) with the 4 mounting screws included. When mounting the movement, use the dial crbor guides (enclosed with the movement] fo ensure thal the center shaft and key-wind arbors align with the corresponding holes in the dial (see dial arbor instructions). a Important Note: The movement hardware includes 4 washers that can be used fo space. the movement mounting screws. This wil prevent the possibility of the mounting screws Piercing through the front surface of the dial board. When mounting the chime rod assembly, you will want to make certain that the hammers are positioned so that they will strike the chime rods about 1" irom the casting block where the chime rods are secured (see Musiration 2), Generally, a 1/16" gapisa recommended starting point for spacing between the hammer heads and rods (see “iiustration 5 ~ letter C). You may mount the chime rods directly to the case back panel, however you can also use a spacer block (to move the chime rods foward) if the inside. case depth is greater than 3-1/8”. Further adjustmenis to improve sound quality wil be made fo each hammerin alaterstep. Installation of the 5-9/16” Pendulum Leader: the movement wil come with a pre-mounted pendulum leader and a separate 5-9/16" length pendulum leader. Carefully remove the pre-mounied pendulum leader from the moyement and set it aside. Mount the 5-9/16" pendulum leader as shown in illustratiog’) Facing the rear of the movement, rotate the pendulum leader so that the prongs om the leader hook are facing left, Slide the incicated mounting notch of the leader into ihe siot in the crutch arm. Genlly rotate the leader clockwise 90° (within the crutch arm slo) so that the prongs on the leader are facing the rear of the movement. Slide the pendulum leader up in the crutch arm siot until the stop shoulder (see illustration 3} reaches the underside of the crutch arm. Gently push the pendulum leader up unfil you atiach the hook onto the prongs of the pendulum suspension spring {this may take a gentie amount of pressure). Once completed, carefully hang the pendulum onto the leader. Mounting Hands/Synchronizing Time and Chimes: Begin by taking a moment to wind all three key-wind arbors. The movement features an automatic stop mechanism when winding, so each arbor cannot be over-wound. Generally the right key-wind (as you face the front of the assembly} is the best place io begin winding. This Page 2 winds the main melody chime spring, and fends to be the hardest of the three to wind. Wind each key-wind until the auto-stop mechanism is engaged. ifnecessary, remove the cap nut from the hand shaft. Temporatily place the minute hand over the square portion of the hand shaft (where it points to is not important at this time}. Gently rotate the hand clockwise until you hear a "click" sound. IMPORTANT: If the movement should chime, allow the movement to completely chime {including the hour strikes) before rotating the hand once more. Continue fo rotate the minute hand up to | full rotation (stopping at every 15-minute interval fo allow the movement to chime) until the movement chime siikes (or counts} out the hours. Note: Do noi be concemed with the quality of the chimes at this point, as final chime hammer adjustments will be made atter time/chime synchronization. When the movement chimes, you should hear 4 melody chime notes at %& past the hour: & melody chime notes at % past the hour; 12 melody chime notes at the % hour; and 16 chime melody notes on the hour, followed by the hour strkes/count, Listen fo the chime melody notes and then continue to rotate the hand (stopping at each quarter hour) until you hear 16 melody chime notes, followed by the hour strike. Carefully Isten fo the number of hour strikes. Remember that, at this ime, the minute hand may net ortespond fo the melody chime noles you hear, Remove the minute hand and mount the hour hand so that if points to the number that May weed Corresponds with the number of hour strikes heard (example: 5 hour strikes — mount the hour hand at 5 o'clock). Re-mount the minute hand onto the shat! so that Its pointing at the 12 o'clock position. NOTE: The hour hand must be pressed on the hand shaft far enough so that there is clearance between the backside of the minute hand hub and front side of the hour hand hub. If there is noi enough clearance, the clock may stop running (or the minute hand nut may work itself loose). I the minute hang is not peinting precisely at the "12" o'clock position, you can remove the hand and adiust it on its friction fit hub (see ilustration 4). Carefully grip the backside of the hub, with a small pair of pliers, and move the hand slightly clockwise or counter. clockwise (as required) to correct alignment, Re-mount the minute hand and rotate clockwise, making certain fo stop at each quarter hour. As you do so, make certain that you have proper clearance between the hour and minute hand, When you reach the {ul hour, count the number of stikes and make certain that the hour hand corresponds to the number of hour strikes. If necessary, you may correct any misalignment of the hour hond by carefully rotating it on the hand shaft. Secure the minute hand with the knuled nut provided. Important: Do not over-tighten ihe knurled nut, You may now set ihe movement to the current lime. Rotate the minute hand clockwise Unf the current fime of day is reached {making cerlain you stop and allow the Movement to compleiely chime before continuing to roiate the hand). The movement will automatically synchronize the chime to the quarter hours/hour within that fime. Chime Hammer Adjustments: White 1/16" gapis o great starting point for hammer/chime rod gap {see ilusiraiion 5, letter C), you may find that further adjustments are required for optimal sound quolity. Begin by making certain that each hammer s cenlered over each corresponding chime red. The hammers/rods should not touch or Tub against each other. When listening to the sound of the chimes, you may experience §wo scenarios that may require further chime hammer adjustments Page 3
