AMDM - Math in My Future Project


OBJECTIVE: Determine the math requirements, training, and cost for the career of your choice.

TASK: You are to research all the key components in perusing the career of your choice. Most research can be done
online. You will document all of the following in a PowerPoint/Prezi that you will present to the class.

I. School/Certification Information:
a) Do you have to have a diploma or a GED to pursue your career?(1 pt)

b) Where do you have to go to get your license/certification/training? (name, address, website) (1 pt)

c) How do you apply for the license/certification? What qualifications do you have to have? (2 pts)

d) Describe what you have to do to obtain your license/certification. Examples: courses you have to take,
assessments you have to pass, trainings you have to complete, etc. How long will the process take? (4
pts)

e) At the end of your training/certification process, do they provide you with a job? (1 pt)

f) I. Determine the specific topics/concepts for the 1st college math course you are required to take. You
must check content, not just a title. (2pts)
(You can do this by tracking down a course syllabus online to get more specifics about each
course (Google search “course title with code + university/institution name”. Ex: College
Algebra math 1111 + Kennesaw State University).
II. Does this course match any of the topics in this AMDM course: statistics, mathematical models,
finance, etc? Please be sure to be detailed in your findings. (2 pts)

If you do not have to take a math class, explain how you will use math in your future career. How does
this math relate to the math we use in AMDM? Use the same link as the one above to find the AMDM
standards.

g) Why did you take AMDM this year? Be honest. (1 pt)

II. Financial Requirements


a) Find the total cost of your license/certification. This includes, but is not limited to supplies, training,
certification/license etc. (2 pts)
b) Determine if you can obtain a scholarship for your license/certification. If there is not one, do they offer financial aid?
Do they pay for the training/certification? Briefly describe the requirements you need for either, and the amount you
would receive (academic standing, due date, financial, ethnicity, recommendations, etc.) (2 pts)

III. Closure (3 pts)


a) How will you benefit from learning the material in this course? Please be thorough and thoughtful with your answer.

IV. Works Cited (2 pts):


a) Include date viewed &URL for college web pages and specific course numbers (ex: MATH 1310). Add any other
websites you found helpful in compiling this information.
