ARC-154 BUILDING TECHNOLOGY III

LIST OF MECHANICAL MATERIALS:

 BRASS- Brass is a metallic alloy that is made of copper and zinc. The proportions of zinc and
copper can vary to create different types of brass alloys with varying mechanical and electrical
properties.
 DUCTILE IRON- Ductile iron, also known as ductile cast iron, nodular cast iron, spheroidal graphite
iron, spheroidal graphite cast iron and SG iron, is a type of graphite-rich cast iron discovered in
1943 by Keith Millis.
 ALLOY STEEL- Alloy steel is steel that is alloyed with a variety of elements in total amounts
between 1.0% and 50% by weight to improve its mechanical properties.
 GLASS FIBER- Glass fiber is a material consisting of numerous extremely fine fibers of glass
 MAGNESIUM ALLOY- Magnesium alloys are mixtures of magnesium with other metals (called
an alloy), often aluminum, zinc, manganese, silicon, copper, rare earths and zirconium. Magnesium
is the lightest structural metal.
 CAST IRON- Cast iron is a group of iron-carbon alloys with a carbon content greater than 2%. Its
usefulness derives from its relatively low melting temperature
 WIRE- A wire is a single, usually cylindrical, flexible strand or rod of metal. Wires are used to bear
mechanical loads or electricity and telecommunications signals. Wire is commonly formed by
drawing the metal through a hole in a die or draw plate.
 FIBER- Fiber or fiber is a natural or synthetic substance that is significantly longer than it is wide.
Fibers are often used in the manufacture of other materials
 POLYMER CONCRETE- Polymer concretes are a type of concrete that use polymers to replace
lime-type cements as a binder. In some cases the polymer is used in addition to portland cement to
form Polymer Cement Concrete or Polymer Modified Concrete.
 ALUMINUM ALLOY- Aluminum alloys are alloys in which aluminum is the predominant metal. The
typical alloying elements are copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon, tin and zinc
 CARBON NANOTUBE- Carbon nanotubes are allotropes of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure.
These cylindrical carbon molecules have unusual properties, which are valuable for
nanotechnology, electronics, optics and other fields of materials science and technology.
