MAN B&W Low Speed Engines
Nominal Rating (MCR)
The engine ratings quoted remain valid up to tropical conditions:
Blower inlet temperature 45 ºC
Blower inlet pressure 1,000 mbar
Charge air coolant temperature 32 ºC
For more demanding ambient conditions, please contact MAN Diesel &
Turbo, Copenhagen or the engine builder.
Engine Application
The engine ratings and speeds shown are based on generator drive. For
other drives, such as mechanical drive of mills, pumps, compressors, etc.,
please contact MAN Diesel & Turbo, Copenhagen or the engine builder.
The diesel generator set ratings and heat rates shown are depending on
actual generator make and therefore for guidance only.
Turbocharger Selection
Two-stroke low speed engines can be delivered with MAN Diesel, ABB or
MHI turbochargers as standard.

Dual Fuel (DF) Engines
The dual fuel engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo efficiently run on liquid fu-
els or natural gas with emissions far below the world bank limit. The possi-
bility to switch over immediately from gas to diesel operation and vice versa
provides full flexibility at multiple applications. The optimised combustion
chamber gives very low fuel consumption in both operational modes.
27
MAN Medium Speed Engines
Peak Load
Peak load applications are defined as Stationary plants only used a few
hours a day to compensate peak demands of electrical power.
Emission Control
All medium speed four-stroke engines in this booklet comply with the World
Bank 1998 & 2007/2008 guidelines for power plants < 300 MW th thermal
fuel input. All small bore four-stroke engines comply with the latest World
Bank guidelines. Engines with even lower NO x values are available on re-
quest. MAN Diesel & Turbo is prepared to deliver NO x as well as SO x and
particle reduction systems.
Gaseous Fuels
On natural gas, our dual fuel and gas engines comply with the German TA-
Luft and the World Bank 2007/2008 levels. Engines with even lower NO x
values are available on request.
Heat Rate
The stated heat rates refer to the following ISO reference conditions. The
mechanical heat rate is based on shaft power, the electrical heat rate on
output at alternator terminals:
28
MAN Medium Speed Engines
The figures are given with tolerances and without engine driven pumps.
Attached pumps will require additional fuel. The heat rate for DF engines in
gas operation includes pilot fuel. Consumption figures may vary according
to the alternator make and the site conditions.
For conversion between heat rate and specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC)
please note that:
Heat Rate x 1,000
