TRAINING FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (SHS) TEACHERS ON TEACHING


STRATEGIES AND ASSESMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING
July 30, 2018 (Day 1)

To officially start the activity, an opening program led by our Schools Division
Superintendent, Dr. Nelia S. Lomocso together with the Assistant Schools Division
Superintendent, Mrs. Laila F. Danaque, teachers, staff, and student volunteers, was conducted at
Hotel Parkway Surigao’s Session Hall on July 30 at exactly 9:30 in the morning. The participants
were acknowledged by group and warmly welcomed by Dr. Dominico P. Larong, Jr., Chief of
Curriculum Implementing Officer, emphasizing importance of the improvement on teaching
strategies among Senior High School (SHS) teachers and expressing his deepest gratitude to the
ones who helped and participated in making the ceremonies and activities possible.

It is then followed by Ms. Krista R. Fetalvero, Senior Education Program Specialist, with
the Statements of Purpose and House Rules. Ms. Fetalvero gave the rationale of activity, along
with its terminal objectives. She also emphasized the following: time management, importance
of attendance, participation, compliance of requirements, and reminded the participants to enjoy
the activity. A message was given Mrs. Laila F. Danaque, Assistant Schools Division
Superintendent, putting everyone within the room at ease by her encouragements and the
assurance at the success of the strategies that shall be introduced. Mrs. Danaque reminded the
teachers of their role as teachers, and their significance in the country.

The participants and speakers were given a five-minute break to prepare their powerpoint
presentations, communicate with others, and utilized the rest of the time to formulate their group
name.
At 9:25 in the morning, the first session entitled, ‘Curriculum Framework Standards’
began, delivered by Mrs. Laila F. Danaque, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent. She
presented the following:

 K-12 Basic Education Curriculum Framework


 Learning Areas
 Spiral Progression
 Learning Competencies
 21st Century Skills
 Coding Legend of the Modules
 Senior High School Curriculum

These key terms were exposited clearly and concisely. It was followed by Dr. Manuel L.
Limjoco, Jr., Education Program Supervisor, the speaker for the second session entitled
‘Understanding 21st Century Learners’. Objectives were presented, and cited the characteristics
of the 21st Century Learners. He conducted group activities, such as Scavenger Hunt. Participants
were tasked to collect as many names with regards to the topic asked. He also let the participants
watch a video clip, depicting the diversity of learners uniting for innovation and revolution. The
second session ended with a closing activity of song interpretation.

Dr. Cecilia M. Saclolo, Public Schools District In-charge cheerfully started the third
session entitled ‘Understanding the 21st Century Teachers’ by an activity: Spot the Difference.
She presented the status quo, explained the characteristics, enumerated the skills, and asked
questions, allowing the teacher participants to engage for a lively discussion.

The last session for the first day was delivered by Dr. Grace Y. Urbiztondo, who
dynamically started the session with a zumba, for enjoyment and refreshment of everyone within
the room. The fourth session was entitled ‘Explicit Teaching’. She conducted various group
activities concerning ways of teaching, giving the teacher participants a chance to apply what
they’ve learned during the session.
