TenCate™ is the originator of the use of high strength geotextile fabries, fabricated in to tubes for use in Marine applications such as the core of sand dunes, breakwaters, jetties, groynes, and stacked structures to create wetlands and as the perimeter of artificial islands. The first TenCate Geotube® occurred nearly 50 years ago in the Netherlands and since that time over 200 miles (322Km) have been deployed. TenCate has been instrumental in helping storm damaged areas in Mexico rebuild and protect their shorelines with our Geotube® containers utilizing GTIO00M , high strength fabric. ‘The ‘minimum fabric strength that we recommend for tubes that will be subject to storm related wave and debris attack that Mexico experiences is a wide width specification of 1000 Ibsf inch (175 KNimeter).. Unfortunately, with the success of the Geotube® technology in Mexico, it has spawned many imitators, none of which offers a 175kN/meter fabric and these imitators often utilize fabries that are less than one half of this strength. Many project owners have been tempted to use these lower cost fabrics which have resulted in tube failures. This has not been the case with TenCate products. There are many projects that have been in place for 10 years that have experienced several category 5 hurricanes and are still providing the protection they were originally designed to deliver.
