Introduction
Hydraulic projects and their feasibility; Planning of hydraulic projects; Survey on project
area; Design consideration and construction of canal, tunnel and ditches and their linings,
flumes and conveyance.

Element of Hydraulic Structure


Elements of dam engineering and related hydraulic structures, introductory perspective. Site
assessment and selection of type of dam, involving hydrological, hydraulic, geotechnical,
river engineering and loading aspects. Diversion works, hydraulic design of dam outlet works
and spillways, intakes and bottom outlets, energy dissipation in hydraulic structures (stilling
basins, plunge pools, stilling wheels), Hydraulic power development. Two-phase air-water
and water sediment flows in hydraulic structures; Hydraulic structures constructions,
instrumentation and surveillance.

Structural Analysis
Control structures: Inverted siphon, drop, chute and culverts, drainage inlets. Storage dams:
Earthen and concrete, dam components, pond and fish pond. Water intake structure: Type,
design, methods of construction and prevention. Sluice gate: Type, hydraulic and structural
design.
