1 Prior to commencing any work review the manufacturers Start-up and Commissioning procedures

2 Confirm that all safety precautions have been adhered to and that a permit to work has been raised for this
activity.
3 Confirm that all mechanical "Pre Start-Up Checks" have been completed.
4 Confirm that all other discipline pre start-up checks have been performed i.e.… electrical, instrument and
process.
5 In conjunction with Electrical, check that the hoist overload and the upper travel limit cut out switches
operate.
6 In conjunction with Electrical check operation of the cross and long travel limit switches (if fitted).
7 With a light load on the hook check operation of the hoist, limit to limit. Ensure upper travel limit cut out
operates.
8 Check operation of the cross beam trolley, limit to limit, check that the cable catenary travels freely and
does not snag.
9 Repeat step 8 on long travel, limit to limit, ensure that there are no obstructions on the rail lines prior to
starting.
10 LOAD TEST- This crane has a rated safe working load of X Tons. With the cross travel trolley positioned
mid span lift a load of 1.25 SWL x X = Y Tons (HOLD). The deflection a mid span should not exceed
1/250 x span (HOLD).
11 Lift a SWL and traverse the crane limit to limit checking for "tight spots" or snags
12 On completion of tests ensure that the crane is clearly marked with its TAG No and SWL.
