Abstract
This document lays down the Laws, Policies, and Principles that govern the Res
Publica Romana Discord server. While some protocols are confidential and can only
be accessible by officials, most content is open for all members to view.

Preamble
I, the creator of the Res Publica Romana Discord server, in order to promote the under-
standing and widespread appreciation of the culture of Ancient Rome in the 21st Century,
do ordain and establish this charter for the server.

1 Basis
1.1 Purposes
The Res Publica Romana Discord server was created with these Purposes in mind:
1. To serve as a platform where users from across the world can learn, discuss, express
their interest in Ancient Rome, and the Roman Republic, to be more specific;
2. To be a centre for harmonizing the cultures and identities of people from all across
the world, similar to the position that the early city of Rome played between the
merchants from the Etruscans of modern-day Tuscany, and Greek colonies along the
Italian Peninsula;
3. To be a platform where people of all ages, races, and ethnicities can meet new, like-
minded acquaintances, who shall form lifelong friendships; and
4. To develop friendly relations among other Discord servers based on respect for the prin-
ciple of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate
measures to strengthen universal peace and prosperity.

1.2 Principles
The server and its members, in pursuit of the Purposes declared in Article 1, shall act in
accordance with the following Principles.
1. All members shall refrain from any kind of NSFW content, whether its in their profile
picture, username, text, or images.
2. All members shall respect the rights of each other, rights which are ordained in this
charter, in order to preserve individual dignity and that of the server as a whole.

2 Participation
2.1 Government
There shall be two entities that govern the Res Publica Romana Discord server.
1. The Consul is the primary and most important organ of the server. He/she can only
retire upon their own, sovereign decision.
2. The Senate is the last and only legislative organ of the server. They shall enforce the
charter and its Principles.

2.2 Membershsip
Membership in the Res Publica Romana Discord server shall be open to everyone who choose
to abide by the rules established by this charter, and, in the judgement of the officials of the
server, are able and willing to carry out these obligations.

2.3 Citizenship
Roman Citizenship can only be awarded to people who meet these obligations. The process
of obtaining citizenship shall comprise of a short, timed test, proctored by any Senator.

• They have reached/surpassed the rank of Decurion (Lvl. 18).

• They have purchased and used the ”Citizenship Exam” product, worth X5000, from
the Unbelievaboat store.

3 Partnership
3.1 Requirements
Partnership is defined as a mutual advertisement pact between two servers where both servers
benefit from the other server’s advertisement. A person is eligible for partnering a server
with ours, if all of these conditions are true.

• The person initiating the partnership is the owner of the partnering server, or has a
degree of moderation permissions in the server they’re representing.

• The owner, or a moderator-equivalent, holds citizenship status in our server.

• A person of the owner’s choice passes a short, multiple choice quiz on the history of
Rome.

In order for a partnership to be initiated, the owner of the partnering server must swear an
oath to make sure that our Principles, values, and other morals are upheld by their members.
Furthermore, the Consul must approve of the partnership, in order for it to be recognized.

3.2 Monitoring
1. The Res Publica Romana Discord server must receive its own, custom invite link, only
accessible to members of our server. This will be used to monitor activity.

2. Any Senator or Consul who joins the partner’s server must be given a role named
Legatus Romanus (meaning Roman Envoy), and the role must have this color: #0080fe.

3. The role mentioned in the previous clause must have ”Manage Server” permissions, so
that officials can monitor invite link activity.

3.3 Reasons for Revocation
A partnership can be revoked if at least one of the following conditions are true:
1. The amount of members that Res Publica Romana gains is not proportional to the
amount of members that the partner receives.
2. The partnering server’s morals do not align with those of Res Publica Romana.

3.4 Revocation Protocol

Only a Legatus (specialized Senator) has the permission to initiate a partnership revocation
request. He/she must send to the Consul a brief description of what exactly is the reason why
they feel that the partnership must be revoked. If approved by the Consul, the partnership
will have officially ended.

4 Advertisement Policy
4.1 Server Ads
Unless done by a partner, server advertisement goes against the charter of the Res Publica
Romana Discord server, and shall be punished with a mute of 48 hours.

4.2 Direct Messages

Direct Message (DM) Advertisement goes against the Discord Terms of Service, and is strictly
prohibited in the Res Publica Romana Discord server. Victims of DM Advertisement must
report it to a Praetor, and here: https://dis.gd/request.

4.3 Inappropriate Ads

If a Res Publica Romana official considers an advertisement, even if it’s from a partner, to
be inappropriate (excessive advertisement, mentioning @everyone, etc), they have the right
to mute the sender of the message for a period of time equivalent to how inappropriate they
believe the advertisement is, from 12 hours to 7 days.

4.4 Res Publica Romana Ads

1. Any member who chooses to promote the Res Publica Romana Discord server can opt
to to receive their own invite link, which can be monitored to assess the member’s
commitment, activity, etc.
2. The member must follow the advertisement rules describe in this chapter, and those
of the locations they advertise in.
3. If a server owner believes that a Res Publica Romana member has inappropriately
advertised their server, they can contact a Praetor to resolve the issue.
