4 TYPES OF COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE

1. GRAMMATICAL COMPETENCE-refers to the competence of the


person in syntax and morphology.
2. DISCOURSE COMPETENCE-refers ti the proper use of the words
(cohesion) and the appropriate combination of communicative
functions. (coherence)
3. SOCIOLINGUISTIC COMPETENCE-refers to the ability of a person to
use appropriate words in particular social situations.
4. STRATEGIC COMPETENCE-a person has the ability to make repairs, to
cope with imperfect knowledge and sustain communication through a
variety of methods

7 TYPES PF COMMUNICATIVE STRATEGIES


1. NOMINATION- always makes sure that will be able to discuss a particular topic
clearly and truthfully. It is also important to present relevant ideas based on valid
facts and statics
2. RESTRICTION- it is important sometimes to restrict yourself things not relevant to
the topics
3. TURN-TAKING- you need to speak when it’s your turn.
4. TOPIC CONTROL- to be good conversationalist, you should always learn to ask
relevant questions and giving appropriate responses
5. TOPIC SHIFTING- when we introduce a new topic after thorough interaction of
the other topic, that is topic shifting
6. REPAIR- misunderstanding occurs when there is communication breakdown. In
order to avoid this, it is important to send comprehensive details regarding the
topic.
7. TERMINATION- to close the dialogue, you can say it in a nice way or you can use
signal to end the conversations.
