Programme summary: The Master of Arts in Social Theory includes four subdisciplines:
sociology, political science, philosophy, and applied ethics. You will learn to apply a wide
variety of perspectives, concepts, and methods of these disciplines to the analysis of late
modern society. This plurality and the balance between social-theoretical and
normative-ethical approaches are what make this programme so unique.
Special features: This master's programme is offered in the context of the Friedrich
Schiller University of Jena's Laboratory of the Enlightenment, a priority research area
integrating the humanities and cultural studies.
Career opportunities: As a graduate, you will not only be qualified to conduct research in
social science and philosophy but also to perform conceptional work in politics, public
administration, and non-profit organizations that deal with societal and social-philosophical
issues.
