Background of the Study

Significance of the Study

The result of the study will be beneficial to the following individuals:

Teachers.

Students.

Future Researchers. The result of the study will help future researchers gain insights in their
quest for knowledge and be able to accomplish needed information in their study.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study aimed to

The respondents of this study were the 24 teachers of public elementary teachers
teaching Grades 1- 3 in the District of Malay.

Descriptive Causal comparative research design was used in the study.

A research-made questionnaire and interview guide was used in the data gathering.
Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentage ranks, mean and weighted mean
and inferential statistics such as Mann- Whitney and Kruskall Wallis test were used.

The study was conducted on July 1-30, 2018.

Methodology

This includes the research design, the locale of the study, respondents of the study, the
data gathering instruments, validity and reliability of the instruments, ethical consideration,
data- gathering procedure, and data analysis.
Research Design

The study employed both the quantitative research and qualitative data. According to
Given, Lisa M. (2008) quantitative research is the systemic empirical investigation of observable
phenomena via statistical, mathematical or computational techniques. The objective of
quantitative research is to develop and employ mathematical models, theories, and hypothesis
pertaining to phenomena. The process of measurement is central to quantitative research
because it provides the fundamental connection between empirical observation and
mathematical expression of quantitative relationships. Quantitative data is any data that is in
numerical form such as statistics, percentages, etc.

For the qualitative causal comparative method of research design was used. According
to Frankael (2016), this research design attempts to determine the cause of consequences of
differences that already exist between or among group of individuals. It begins with a noted
difference between two groups and then to look for causes for, consequences of this
difference.

Qualitative Research Consultants Association (2018) states that Qualitative research is

designed to reveal a target audience’s range of behaviour and the perceptions that drives it
with reference to specific topics or issues. It uses in-depth studies of small groups of people to
guide and support the construction of hypotheses. The results of qualitative research are
descriptive rather than predictive.

Locale of the Study

This study was conducted in Grades 1-3 of all public elementary schools in the District of
Malay.

Malay is a first-class municipality and considered as tourism Capital of the Province of

Aklan located at the northwestern tip of Panay Island. It is bounded on the north by the Sibuyan
and Sulu Seas, on the east by the Municipality of Nabas, on the west by the Municipality of
Buruanga, and on the south by the Provinces of Antique. The municipality of Malay had a total
land area of 6,731 hectares, it is politically divided into 17 barangays.

Malay was chosen as the locale of the study because of proximity to the researcher’s
area of designation as the researcher is teaching in Malay National High School, Malay, Aklan.
With this reason, the researcher was able to identify the problems met by teachers in Multi-
Lingual Education in the Implementation of MTB-MLE in her own district.

Data Gathering Instruments

Validity and Reliability of the Research Instruments

The researcher-made use of the content validity to ascertain the validity and reliability
of the parts of the questionnaire checklist.

The process of developing and validating an instrument is in large part focused on

reducing error in the measurement process. The researcher makes a partial and minor

Ethical Consideration

The respondents of the study were informed of the purpose of the study and how to go
about in answering the questionnaire. Moreover, they were also informed that the data
gathered from them would be treated with utmost confidentiality for ethical consideration and
their right of privacy.

Data Gathering Procedure

Permission to conduct a study was obtained before the data collection commenced
from the District Supervisor of Malay, School Heads/Principals and Teachers designated in the
aforementioned district.

Upon the approval of the permits, the researcher personally distributed the
questionnaires to the elementary public school teachers in the said district. The respondents
were given enough time the questionnaires. After a week the researcher retrieved all the
questionnaires from them. Upon the retrieval, the researcher carefully reviewed the
completeness of the responses.

Similarly, the researcher scheduled and conducted a one on one interview with the
teacher’s respondents to validate the data that were collected through the survey instruments.
