Course design approaches

The following graphics serve as illustrations of the course design


approach examples outlined in the TSM.

Teachers should use or develop a course design that is appropriate


for their school in their particular context.

The themes in each graphic are shown in no particular order, but the five themes
are to be addressed equally over the two years of the course.

Linear/sequential approach model


The illustrations that follow represent two possible organizational structures for the linear/sequential
approach. Teachers are encouraged to use (or develop) any model that best suits the context of the
school.

* Three themes are covered in depth in year 1 of the course with the remaining
two themes covered in depth in year 2 of the course.

* In year 1, two themes are fully covered and one is partially covered. In year 2, the theme
partially covered in year 1 is revisited and the other two themes are fully covered.
