Re – SmartLVL 15 compared to F17

The relative Characteristic Strength Properties of SmartLVL 15 compared to F17 are listed below.

F17
Characteristic Property (MPa) SmartLVL 15 (Table H.2 AS 1720.1:2010)

Modulus of Elasticity E 15300 14000

f'b,90 59
Bending *
f'b,300 46 42
Tension parallel to grain f't 35 25
Compression parallel to grain f'c 39 34
Shear f's 4.2 3.6
Numerical subscript indicates the reference depth of the stated characteristic bending capacity

The increased MOE (stiffness) of SmartLVL 15 over F17 means that a SmartLVL 15 member of an equivalent
depth as an F17 can enjoy a lessor breadth (thickness) to achieve the same beam span. To this end, SmartLVL
15 has the following breadths to the existing F17 breadths:

F17 breadth (mm) SmartLVL 15 breadth (mm)

35 35
45 42

SmartLVL 15 comes in the full range of standard LVL depths from 90 to 525 mm and further; SmartLVL 15 is
available either untreated, H2s glue-line treated for insect protection South of the Tropic of Capricorn or can
be supplied further LOSP treated to H2/H3 if required.

Full details about SmartLVL 15, including span tables can be found in the SmartLVL 15 Design Guide available
from the SmartFrame Design Centre or can be downloaded from the Tilling website at www.tilling.com.au.
