July 25, 2018 Minutes VVA Chapt. 776

The meeting was called to order by President Ed Gaudet at 1900 hours. The Pledge of Allegiance
was recited followed by a moment of silence in recognition of all missing servicemen and prisoners
of war as well as those still serving in harms way. All introduced themselves and signed in.
The Secretary’s report was approved as published. Treasurer Harold Hansen reported on the state of
our treasury. Larry Witt reported for the finance committee and it was decided that approval of the
budget would be tabled until the August meeting.
Members in distress or hospitalized included Will Ensent, Timothy Nations , Dale Akins, and John
Bishop.
Vice President Bruce Cheek gave the correspondence report: Elks club requested money for their
golf tournament; a motion was made and seconded to donate $150 for a hole. Motion failed. Puerto
Rican VVA chapter thanked us for our Hurricane donation. State VVA thanked us for our
contribution and for the $350 we donated for computer. Clinton County Republican women donated
$50 in appreciation for John Lavelle speaking at their meeting. Nicole Lange thanked us for her
scholarship. NAMI Homefront is a no-cost six session education program for family and friends of
military servicemen members and veterans with health conditions. Six Monday sessions October 15
through November 19 at 1800 – Western Illinois University in Moline.
Several members detailed coin stores.
Larry Witt reported our membership at 241; 181 lifetime, 32 individual, and 28 AVVA. Thanks to
Larry and all recruiters.
Denny Queal reported for the honor guard; serving at more funerals.
Larry Witt reported on Rock ‘n’ Roll bingo which will be September 22; doors open at 5:30 and
bingo starts at 6:30 at American Legion Post 26, Davenport.
Bill Churchhill reported the status of our PX. There will be an open house October 13 at RIA
honoring military retirees.
There will be a hospital visit August 6. Meet at McDonald’s Northwest Boulevard at 8 AM.
A motion was made and passed to send Lyle Peterson to district 6 meeting in DesMoines for $250.
Bruce Cheek reported there will be a car show August 18 and requested the presence of our honor
guard. We can sell clovers if we want. Meeting was adjourned at 2000.
