Dear Parishioners,

Over the past Sundays we have had

stories of Jesus feeding the multitude of
people. Food and hunger is such a vital
part of our human condition. The same
applies to our spiritual journey. God is the
only one who can satisfy our deepest
hungers. When we celebrate the Eucharist,
we are fed on Word and Sacrament. The
Word of God and the reception of Holy
Communion gives is that spiritual food
which we need to grow in our relationship
with God and one another.
In today’s reading, Wisdom (being
wise in the things of God) is described in
terms of a banquet. A banquet is a special
feast – it has the ingredients of the
Eucharist. St Paul reminds us to be wise
and intelligent Christians and make the
most of the present time and be alert to the
will of God.
The Gospel gives us Jesus’ promise of
eternal life, but not only that: “Anyone who
does eat my flesh and drink my blood HAS
eternal life”. His life – eternal begins here
and now! It is not some vague future
promise, but also in this life and leading
into the future life.
Our faith tells us that Jesus is present
in the celebration of Mass. We gather in his
name to be fed and nourished. Just as we
need food and drink to live our own human
life, so too we need the spiritual food of
Jesus’ own body and blood. This is the
Treasure Jesu has left us. Like any treasure
we need to value, respect, appreciate and
avail of that gift. Just pray, think and reflect
on the treasure of the Mass and ask God to
deepen our understanding of what is
available to us again and again in the Mass.
POPE FRANCIS’ VISITS IRELAND:
While I was in Ireland over the last few
weeks, people were getting very excited
and looking forward to Pope Francis’ visit.
Lots of preparations are in hand and it
promises to be a wonderful occasion under
the heading – “World meeting of Families”.
Then there were others who are not so
enthusiastic about the visit. Yes, there is
the sad chapter of abuse. This is
recognised and being dealt with. So we
hope the positive will outshine all the
possible negatives. A copy of the Papal
Itinerary is available. We pray especially
over the two days visit, that God will bless
Pope Francis and all who will hear and see
him during that time.
HOLIDAY: I enjoyed my holiday in
Tipperary. It was great to catch up with
family and friends. I was able to attend
some hurling games and managed a little
golf too! I hope you have had some leisure
time too.
My niece, Ann is keeping well and able
to be very active. She is still undergoing
tests to monitor everything. She wishes to
thank everybody for your prayers.

PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO SANTIAGO
We are planning to go to Santiago de
Compostela for an 8 days walking
pilgrimage at the end of May 2019.
We are still fine tuning the details, but need
to know number in order to do so. If you are
