ASSIGNMENT: BUSINESS AND MATH

This is the assignment for this term: *study the viability of a business idea using a
spread-sheet* (hoja de cálculo).

i) Work teams: You can work in teams of up to 3 students. Reply to this message with
the classmates of your team.

ii) Deadline: by December the 1st

iii) Evaluation: the assignment mark will weight as an exam.

- (40%) the spread sheet with all the calculations USING FORMULAS.
- (20%) a written presentation
- (20%) 4 minutes business presentation (NO LONGER THAN 4 MIN)
explaining why your idea is a succesful business and an interesting investment
opportunity (+10% if in English)
- (20%) written question in the final term exam

iv) Submission: you will submit via Edmodo a compressed file named: "Business and
math + team members names" E.g. "Business and math - José Prieto - Luna Rebollo". The
file contents will be the following:
- spread-sheet with all the calculations (Open Office Calc format).
- written presentation (in pdf or Open Office Impress format)

IMPORTANTE: la hoja de cálculo deberá contener fórmulas, para que al cambiar los
valores de partida (costo del producto, etc) se pueda recalcular en un instante la
viabilidad del proyecto. See the example attached.

Key points to study in the spread-sheet:

1. Manufacturing cost or (service cost)
2. Retail price → % profit, % sales comission , % taxes
3. Net profit and number of units to produce each month
4. Month expenses in materials, premises rental…
5. Work hours you need to work per day and per week in your business
