Calcium Gluconate

Adult Dosage: PO 1-2g bid to qid, IV 7mEq q1-3d


Neonate Dosage: 50-130mg/kg/d (max 1g)

Type of Drug: Fluid and electrolyte replacement solution

Action: Rapidly restores serum calcium levels in acute hypocalcemia

Use: Maintains normal calcium balance during pregnancy, lactation, and childhood
growth, also an antidote for magnesium sulfate

Adverse/Side Effects: Tingling sensation, sensations of heat waves, constipation,


hypotension, and bradycardia

Pitocin (Oxytocin)

Adult dosage for labor induction: IV 0.5-2 mU/min (max 20 mU/min) Decrease
dose when labor established.
Adult Dosage for postpartum bleeding: IM
10 U total dose, IV infuse total of 10-40 U at a rate of 20-40mU/min after delivery

Type of drug: Hormone; Oxytocic

Action: Effective in initiating or improving uterine contractions at term

Use: Used to initiate or improve uterine contractions, management of incomplete


abortions, control of postpartum bleeding, and used to induce labor in cases of
maternal diabetes, preeclampsia and eclampsia

Adverse/Side Effects: Fetal trauma from too rapid propulsion through pelvis, fetal
bradycardia, edema, post partum bleeding, precordial pain, fetal intracranial
bleeding

Percocet (acetaminophen and oxycodone)


Brand Names: Endocet,
Magnacet, Narvox, Percocet, Roxicet, Tylox

Dosage: Percocet 2.5 mg/325 mg


The usual adult dosage is one or 2 tablets every 6 hours. The total daily dose of
acetaminophen should not exceed 4 grams.

Percocet 5 mg/325 mg; Percocet 7.5 mg/500 mg; Percocet 10 mg/650 mg


The usual adult dosage is one tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain. The total daily dose
of acetaminophen should not exceed 4 grams.

Type of Drug: Narcotic Analgesic

Action: PERCOCET is indicated for the relief of moderate to moderately severe pain. In the
OB patient, given as a pain reliever to help alleviate or lessen the pain of contractions

Side Effects/Adverse Effects: Serious adverse reactions that may be associated


with PERCOCET tablet use include respiratory depression, apnea, respiratory arrest,
circulatory depression, hypotension, and shock

The most frequently observed non-serious adverse reactions include


lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness or sedation, nausea, and vomiting. These
effects seem to be more prominent in ambulatory than in nonambulatory patients,
and some of these adverse reactions may be alleviated if the patient lies down.
Other adverse reactions include euphoria, dysphoria, constipation, and pruritus.
