Discovery Award Dinner
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 2017 Discovery Award Dinner.
This year you are witnessing a special moment in the history of the organization that we call the
Zimmer Children’s Museum.
Our story began in 1991 with young families coming to play together in a 600 square foot space at the
Westside Jewish Community Center. Around the same time, youTHink, our youth development initiative,
began meeting underserved teens in and after school to teach arts and social justice programs. In 2000,
we moved into our current space on Museum Row, and the generosity of the Zimmer family helped forge
our new identity.
The Zimmer Children’s Museum was designed to reflect the best in us. Whether it’s a child dressing up
as a firefighter to help someone in need, or a middle school student standing against bullying on their
campus, this is a place where our ideas and actions matter. Because the world that we all share is our
responsibility.
Starting tonight, the Zimmer Children’s Museum and youTHink will become part of our new organizational
name: ShareWell. This name captures more than a place or a program. It represents a spirit of imagining
the world we want to live in and being who we must be in order to create it.
In this world, we ask questions. We are responsible. We practice kindness, generosity and collective
action. We stand up for ourselves and for others. We explore and express what makes us unique and what
we have to offer the world. This place is full of so much creative potential that anything is possible. And it
takes all of us, together.
Welcome to ShareWell.

KENDRA BRACKEN-FERGUSON
Kendra Bracken-Ferguson is mom to 2-year old Tierra and a ShareWell board member.
In her professional life, Kendra is the founder of The BrainTrust. For the past 15 years,
she has expertly navigated the digital space and all that’s come to define it, becoming
a recognized force as a global digital architect.
Prior to creating The BrainTrust, she saw an opening in the market for digital, social
and influencer marketing, took a chance and co-founded Digital Brand Architects.
Now in its sixth year, DBA has quickly grown into the go-to firm for influencer
management.
Before launching DBA, Kendra created the social media footprint for fashion
behemoth, Ralph Lauren, where she was the company’s first Director of Digital Media.
Kendra’s work during and since her time at Ralph Lauren was informed by her years
as Vice President, Digital at Fleishman-Hillard, New York, where she led the digital
consumer team in developing social media strategies for clients including AT&T, DKNY,
and P&G. It’s hardly a surprise that she was awarded the Emerging Voice Award by her

ABOUT SHAREWELL
At ShareWell, we cultivate brave and generous thinkers.
Through arts, immersive play and real-world action,
we guide children and youth to recognize injustice and
possibility within their communities and beyond, and to
take meaningful, collaborative and collective action to
create a better future.
ShareWell has two main program initiatives: The
Zimmer Children’s Museum for 0-8 year olds and
youTHink, a creative youth development program for
middle and high school students.
The Zimmer Children’s Museum offers 10,000 square
feet of discovery-based exhibits and more than 20
classes and free public programs each week in art,
music & movement, cross-cultural exchange, school
readiness, early childhood education and foreign
language. We All Play, the museum’s access initiative,
further lowers barriers to participation through free
community days, waived admission fees for low income
and Title I schools and free “Open Door Days” for
families with children with special needs.
youTHink empowers middle and high school youth
to make a difference in their lives and communities
though arts-based classroom lessons and a range of
arts and youth leadership programs after school hours.
These programs empower youth to find their voice,
develop their critical thinking skills, engage in creative
and meaningful extracurricular activities, and take
positive action for social change.
The students you will hear from tonight participated
in youTHink’s Student Ambassador Program. Student
ambassadors commit 14 hours each month during
the school year to develop their community leadership
skills. They help plan and implement arts and social
change programs for their peers and they take action
on important social issues. Past groups have rallied
for better food options in their neighborhoods, created
public service announcements about bullying, gender
equity and the environment, created social media
campaigns to raise domestic violence awareness and
lobbied at City Hall and Sacramento for change within
the justice system.
