Introduction
This support document contains two sample course planners for the Edexcel GCE in Chemistry
specification.
Course planner 1 follows the specification in topic order, and would enable students to
complete Units 1 and 4 before the January assessment opportunity.
Course planner 2 is an alternative route through the specification, focusing on grouped
areas of chemistry which naturally fit together at AS and A2 levels. This does not allow for
Units 1 and 4 to be completed for the January assessment opportunity. However, this may
suite your particular teaching style.
These are only suggested course planners and do not need to be followed. However, they may
be useful when working through the specification for the first time.

For course planner 1 each unit is taught separately. Units 1 and 4 can be completed before the
end of the autumn term, and examinations to be taken in January. This allows for a modular
approach to the Edexcel GCE in Chemistry.

For course planner 2 all units are taught together, for both the AS and A2. Therefore, the
examinations would be taken in June for all units. This allows for a linear approach to the
Edexcel GCE in Chemistry.
