EL VIEJO Y EL MAR
Es una novela escrita por Ernest Hemingway en mil
novecientos cincuenta y uno (1951). Él fue uno de los
principales novelistas y cuentistas del siglo XX, ganó el
premio Pulitzer en 1953 por El Viejo y El Mar y al año
siguiente ganó el Premio Nobel de Literatura por su
obra completa.
El protagonista de la historia es un anciano llamado
Santiago que se dedicaba a la pesca, pero llevaba
meses sin conseguir nada. Un día decide salir solo al
mar donde por fin un enorme pez pica el anzuelo,
durante la lucha para capturarlo recuerda a Manolin,
un joven que le solía acompañar en las pescas. Luego
de capturar al enorme pez el anciano emprende el
regreso a casa.
El tema central de la obra es la soledad del pescador
y, por qué no, del ser humano en general. La travesía
del Viejo se encuentra llena de gloria y de peligros,
pero también supone una satisfacción total si logra
cumplir el objetivo personal que persigue.

THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA
It is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway in nineteen
fifty-one (1951). He was one of the leading novelists
and storytellers of the twentieth century, won the
Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for El Viejo and El Mar, then won
the Nobel Prize for Literature for his complete work.
The protagonist of the story is an old man named
Santiago who was fishing, but he had not got anything
for months. One day he decides to go alone to the sea
where finally a huge fish stings the hook, during the
fight to capture it he remembers Manolin, a young man
who used to accompany him in the fishing. After
capturing the huge fish the old man starts to return
home.
The central theme of the work is the loneliness of the
fisherman and, why not, the human being in general.
The journey of the Old Man is full of glory and danger,
but it also supposes a total satisfaction if he manages
to fulfill the personal objective that he pursues.
