State Report
[ Requirement Sheet]

Each state report will have ALL SIX of the following items:

1. A poster page (no smaller than 11x17 and no bigger than 17x22) containing:
a. A colored map of your state with its capital indicated by a large star indicating all
large bodies of water, major rivers (if any), and mountain ranges (if any).
b. A colored flag. On the back of it, indicate what the colors/symbols mean.
c. Interesting facts (population, square miles, other states that border yours, state
tree, state flower, state bird, famous people from the state, points of interest, when
it was admitted to the union, state motto, state nickname).
2. A title page with three pictures/illustrations depicting your state.
3. A Table of Contents

Each state report will also contain ANY TWO choices from the following list of tasks
(completed in a five paragraph essay format; Introduction, Body , Conclusion):

Task 1: Write a biography about a famous artist/entertainer from your state (singer,
author, musician, artists, architecture, dancer, composer, etc.).

Task 2: Write about the arts popular or originating from your state (paintings,
literature, architecture, etc.).

Task 3: Pretend you are your state (personification). Introduce yourself to us. Tell us
about your climate, geographical features, lakes, recreational opportunities, etc.

Task 4: Write about the educational system in your state. Who attends school; up to
what age; length of school day and year; what is taught; how much homework, etc.

Task 5: Describe a typical dinner or fancy dinner made up of foods that are popular in
your state. Include at least 2 recipes (may be downloaded off the internet).

Task 6: Write about a famous person who played an important historical role in your
state.
Task 7: Pretend you are a 11-year-old from your state and you are writing our class
explaining what life is like where you live. Tell us about the clothes, your house, your
bedroom, transportation to school, etc.

Task 8: Write about the major religions practiced in your state. Describe the places of
worship, holy books being used, leaders, unique prayers (if any), historic buildings, etc.

Task 9: Write about the most popular sports played in your state. Include who the
famous athletes are and some possible rules that might be different. You may include
your state’s participation in past/current Olympic Games.

Task 10: Write about what a typical day might be like for a child, mother, or father.

Additionally, each state report will contain ANY ONE choice from the following list of
tasks:

Task 11: Show the history of your state in time-line form.

Task 12: Plan a 5-day tour of your state for tourists. Write what there is to do each day
and show on a map where the travels will take them. Tell how much the trip will cost
and what types of things to pack (clothing, etc.).

Task 13: YOUR CHOICE: If you have a better idea for this segment of the report, present
the idea to your teacher for approval. Make it neat, complete and unique.

TASK FORMAT:

Each task should be on separate pages according to the Table of Contents. Be sure that
you are thorough and that you do your very best work (penmanship, neatness, etc.).

ORAL REPORT:

Your oral report will be at least one minute long and no longer than three minutes. It
must be accompanied by some kind of visual. The report consists of sharing with the
class at least one of the tasks you chose to do. Please try to do it without notes.
