Wire Products Limited (WPL) is a member of the IPS group of Companies, an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development
Network (AKDN).
From a humble beginning in 1967 as a nail manufacturer, WPL has grown to become an industry leader, producing
over 20 different products.
WPL has made significant investments in state-of- the art technology and machinery to ensure high productivity to
meet demand in both the local and East African market.
For over 50 years, WPL has set the industry standard for the region by consistently producing affordable and high
quality products made to KEB standards specifications and benchmarked against the best in East Africa.
We take pride in being the only company in East Africa producing barbed-end chainlink and supplying to major
corporations in Kenya.
Going forward, we intend to continue to manufacture an increasingly diverse range of high quality products such as
our new colour coated chain links and wires, which come in a variety of options for a customised look with extra durability.

BARBED WIRE
Things to look out for:
• Length per roll: Length in meters is clearly displayed on each packed roll; the thinner the wire the longer the barbed wire.
Available lengths are: 610m, 480m, 210m and 180m.
• Size of wire: The available gauges are: 16g (1.60mm diameter) & 12.5g (2.50mm diameter).
• Strength of wire: Wire can either be high tensile or low tensile. High tensile barbed wire is of superior quality. When used for fencing, sagging
is minimal and spacing between posts can be wider. This type of wire is an effective barrier for controlling and protecting large animals like
cattle and horses.

BRC AND WELDMESH
Weld Mesh Sheets BRC Sizes
We make Weld mesh sheets of various sizes, depending on customers’ requirements; A. IN ROLLS
the following are some of the critical parameters one needs to know before buying the
LENGTH WIDTH NOMINAL MESH SIZE
required weld mesh sheets.
(M) (M) DIAMETER (mm)
Overall dimensions: Consider the length and width of the sheet required. (mm)
Common sizes include:  8ft by 4ft

 8ft by 6ft
 8ft by 10ft A 66 48 2.10 3.00 190 x 190
Note that as long as one side of the weld mesh is 8 feet or less, the length can vary.
A 65 48 2.10 4.00 190 x 190
Mesh size: This refers to the hole size of the mesh. Common sizes include:

Wire diameter: This refers to the thickness of the wire, and ranges from 2mm to 8mm. A 193 ( Ribbed) 4.20 2.10 7.00 200 x 200
Protection type: The weld mesh can be supplied in galvanized form or plain black wire form. A 252 ( Ribbed) 4.20 2.10 8.00 200 x 200
The galvanized form does not need any further painting or rust prevention measures, while
A 393 ( Ribbed) 4.20 2.10 10.00 200 x 200
the black form will require additional processes by the customer like painting to prevent
rust formation. All the above products are made according to KS 574 - 2015 standard.

BRC’s
British Reinforced Concrete, (BRC’s) are used in the construction industry for reinforcing
concrete. In order to increase the bonding strength between concrete and the mesh,
the BRC’s we make are ribbed, a process only available at WPL at no extra charge. (See
circled in the picture). The actual indentation on the wire reads “WPL”.

CHAIN LINK
Things to look out for:
• Width of chain link: The standard sizes are between 4 feet to 8 feet, but other sizes up to 3.0 meters can be made as per the customer’s requirements.
• Mesh size: The holes’ size is important. The smaller the size, the stronger the chain link. Available size is 80 x 80mm.
• Size of wire: This refers to the thickness of wire being used. The thicker the wire the stronger the chain link. Available sizes range from 1.80mmto 4.00mm diameter.
• Zinc coating: The amount of zinc coating on the wire determines the life of the chain link; commercial coating will have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years
depending on the environment, while heavy coated wire will serve up to 20 years. It is generally recommended that coastal areas fencing material should
be heavily coated due to high humidity and salty sprays.
• Length of roll: The packaging per roll is also important. Typical lengths are not less than 18 meters.
• Types of edges: Wire edges are either barbed end or knuckled edge (see circled in the picture). Barbed end provides better security as it is not easy to
open a link and gain access. These are used mainly for high strength chain link as opposed to knuckled edge, which is preferred for light weight chain link.

Things to look out for:
• Width of chain link: The standard sizes are between 4 feet to 8 feet.
Additional sizes up to 3.0 meter width can be made as per customers’ requirements.

• Mesh size: The size of the hole is important as the smaller the size, the stronger the chain link. Available sizes are 50x50mm and 80x80mm

• Size of Wire: This refers to the thickness of wire being used. The thicker the wire the stronger the chain link. Available sizes range
from 2.5mm to 4.00mm diameter.

• Coating: This provides protection against rust as zinc + plastic coating ensures prolonged lifespan.

• Length of roll: The packing per roll is also important. Typical lengths are no less than 18 meters.

• Types of edges: Available in knuckled edge only (see circled in the picture).

GALVANIZED PRODUCTS
Galvanized steel wire has a variety of applications. Below are some specialized applications.

1. Cable Armouring Wire ( CAW) 3. High Tensile galvanized fencing wire

CAW is used in the cable industry and is made to acceptable industry Galvanized wires are used for fencing purposes; for strengthening an already existing fence or
standards. for electric fencing. They are made from high carbon steel and comes in the following sizes.

BLACK BINDING WIRE, GABION BOXES & CHICKEN WIRE
Black binding wire / Annealed black wire Gabion boxes

Things to look out for:

• Wire becomes harder as it is drawn into finer sizes through a process called
1. Wire diameter of 2.7mm
work hardening. The material is usually brittle and in order to make it soft
the material is annealed. 2. Heavy galvanized wire to protect against rust.
3. Collapsible boxes for ease of transportation.
• Where the application requires soft wire, black blinding wire is the deal
4. Triple twisted to prevent unravelling of the wire
material. Note that the material is not protected against rust.
