Visitations by maggidim and tzaddikim
by Martina Posted: Sat Dec 01, 2007 1:46 am

Shalom!

I have been thinking about visitations by different kinds of emanations lately and what they
represent. Isn't it how we experience the energy of different beings and people that intuitively
forms such emanations? Is it our intuition of what we experience of the energy of maggidim and
tzaddikim that forms such emanations in an experience of visitation? Isn't there a danger if we are
not aware of this process that in the experience of extreme negative energy it will lead us into
mental illness?

Greetings

Salutations in the Light of the Messiah!

Yes, in a manner of speaking, contacts with tzaddikim and maggidim in the visionary dimension are
“intuitive” – they are spiritual and supernal experiences that are translated into images and
thoughts in mental consciousness, and emotions in vital consciousness, our mental and vital
consciousness serving as a something like a mirror in which the impressions are reflected and
displayed; hence the phrase, “mirror of prophecy.” As the Kabbalah teaches us, this mirror may be
hazy or clear, which is to say that our experience depends upon our state of consciousness, which
includes our psychological condition; in the midst of extreme ego-grasping, and egoistic desire and
fear, assuming there is some contact with the True Light, Divine Powers, or with tzaddikim and
maggidim, our mental and vital interpretation will be a very sever distortion of the actual intuition
or contact, but more likely than actual contact with anything of the True Light in such a condition,
there will be contact with admixed or dark spiritual forces, or what may be rightly called
“deceiving spirits.”

In terms of the Gnostic experience, and luminous dreams and divine vision, everything depends on
the purification of consciousness and the ascent to higher and more refined states of consciousness
– the more transparent our consciousness, the higher the state of consciousness, the less
interpretive a luminous dreams or visions will be; at the level of the Supernal or Supramental
Consciousness there is no interpretation as such, but it is a state of *direct knowing*.

There is indeed great danger in the mystical journey – there is the danger of linking with the wrong
kinds of spiritual beings-forces, and there is the danger of extreme states of mental-emotional
imbalance, and to the extent that our thoughts and emotions form links with spiritual beings-
forces, in an imbalanced psychological condition, assuming actual contact with spiritual beings-
forces, or something more than a hallucination produced by the impure unconscious, negativity
attracts negative beings-forces that may attempt to put themselves off as divine, but that are not
divine at all. In other words, these two dangers go hand-in-hand with one another, for what we link
with or contact, and the reality of our experience, is completely dependent upon our own state of
consciousness.

Recently, some one was sharing with me experiences and information channeled by various people
– these various individuals have been strongly impacted by the injustice and such in the world, and
there is an underlying fear or paranoia regarding people in positions of power, government and
such, a great preoccupation with darkness in the world and the potential end of the world. In
psychic visions, of course, this general state of underlying negativity, fear, anxiety, paranoia, and
such, becomes affirmed, and all manner of psychic visions regarding government conspiracies,
extraterrestrial conspiracies, and all kinds of fanciful and useless information pours out – much of
it quite grandiose, more a bolstering of the egoistic self and the reinforcement of the
unenlightened condition than anything about the Divine Light, or about enlightenment and
liberation. If spiritual beings-forces are being contacted by these individuals, they are not divine
beings-forces, but rather are archonic forces, and perhaps even dark and hostile forces, for rather
than illuminate and liberate these contacts only serve to encourage the ego-grasping, desire and
fear of the unenlightened condition, the bondage of the soul.

Interestingly enough, virtually all of these individuals have had a spontaneous opening of
consciousness apart from any actual spiritual education or spiritual discipline of an authentic
wisdom tradition, and without any reliance on an experienced teacher and guide, or reliance on
actual spiritual community – in other words, it is all the product of an opening of consciousness in
an impure condition, and without any understanding of spiritual discernment; and it is a state of
self-will, without any willingness for input from others or true reliance upon the Divine, as though
their visions from the very outset are the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. In a word, it is all
very ambitious.

Of course, even with something of a spiritual education and spiritual self-discipline, and with a
close friendship with an experienced teacher and guide, and with the fellowship of spiritual
community, there is still the danger of falling into an imbalanced state as we sojourn the mystical
path to knowledge of the Divine and union with the Divine – at any time, so long as we are in these
material bodies and this material world, we may be overcome by egotism, or become intoxicated
by selfish desire and fear, our spirituality becoming corrupted by ego-grasping. Constant spiritual
vigilance, constant self-purification, is required – a constant active and dynamic surrender, letting
go of self-grasping, attachment and aversion, and in place of self-cherishing, the cultivation of the
Sacred Heart – spiritual love and compassion.

Our life in this world is a dance of great beauty and great danger – and it is the same with our
spiritual life; but we need not live in fear of the potential danger, rather we need to open to God,
the True Light, and rely upon the Light-presence (Christ) and Light-power (Holy Spirit) – we must
learn to go within and live within, and rely upon Divine Grace.

The great danger in our journey, whether in the material world or spiritual world, reflects the
necessity of the Divine Incarnation of the Messiah and the generation of the Sanctuary of Grace –
for when we abide in the Sanctuary of Grace, enacting a constant self-purification (confession and
repentance) and an active and dynamic surrender, and we actively labor to generate the Sacred
Heart, there is a perfect guardianship in the Way, divine protection, or “sanctuary.”

Coupled with this spiritual self-discipline, if we seek an ongoing spiritual education, and cultivate a
sacred friendship with an experienced teacher and guide, and with spiritual companions in
community, it becomes far less likely that we will fall into the dangers inherent in the spiritual or
mystical journey. That’s why all authentic wisdom traditions speak of some form of holy sanctuary
and cleaving in faith, and speak of reliance upon a spiritual guide of some form and upon the
spiritual fellowship of community; in this regard, Christian Gnosticism is no different – we have
sanctuary in Yeshua Messiah and the Gospel, and we entertain sacred friendship and fellowship in
spiritual community.

When this is in place, naturally, there is some balance to what transpires in our Gnostic
experience, or to the various inner and mystical experiences that transpire – we have some context
for our experiences, and some means of spiritual discernment; if something causes our spiritual
teacher and guide to pause and question, and causes our spiritual friends to question, or poses a
radical contradiction to teachings of authentic wisdom traditions, then we have reason to question
it. On the other hand, when there is an accord in affirmation with the knowledge and experience
of other initiates and the teachings of our tradition we have good reason to take what has unfolded
in our experience to heart and live according to the truth and light revealed. In other words, a
wisdom tradition, a teacher, and a community all serve to produce some “checks and balances,” as
the saying goes – as much as our contacts with tzaddikim and maggidim in intuitive experiences, or
in our dreams and visions, we have good reason to listen and heart the tzaddikim who live and
move among us in this world.

In terms of spiritual discernment within our own experiences – all we need to do is listen and hear
the affects/effects of contacts in our consciousness, and feel their frequency of vibration, paying
attention to the kinds of thoughts and emotions they invoke, and what they encourage in us. We
merely need to cultivate a rigorous openness and honesty with ourselves in our spiritual life and
really look and see where such contacts lead us. If we are willing to openness and honesty, if
something is encouraging egotism, or the play of attachment and aversion, we will notice it. This is
very important because even in the case of true contact with the Divine Light and Divine Powers
our ego-grasping, attachment and aversion can enter into play – so it is not only a question of
discerning spiritual forces, or discerning between what is true or what is false, but also a question
of ensuring that our authentic spiritual and mystical experiences do not become tainted and
distorted by our tendency to self-grasping. If we are willing to be open and honest, it become
pretty clear when self-grasping, attachment and aversion enters into play, and aware of this
ignorance arising we will know and understand how to respond to it.

In this we may glean wisdom from the Gnostic Gospel, Pistis Sophia – when she Sophia recognizes
that she has gone after a false light in place of the True Light, she takes up a process of *confession
and repentance*, turning away from the false light, invoking the True Light and cleaving to the
True Light, she reintegrates herself with the Pleroma of Light; she does this again and again in
ascent, and anytime a challenge or temptation arises she cleaves with even greater passion to her
divine consort, the Human One of Light, the emanation of God, the True Light. She is completely
open and honest with herself, and makes herself transparent to the Divine Light, and so she is
restored to her own proper abode in the Pleroma of Light among the Immortals, the enlightened
ones of the Divine Order.

Yes, the Entirety is a very deceptive and dangerous place – but we have a Sanctuary of Grace in the
Risen Messiah and Shekinah of Messiah, this Supernal Light-presence and Light-power. Hallelu Yah!
Praise the Father-Mother, the True Light!

May we experience the ascension of Malkut into union with the True Light; amen.

Blessings & shalom!

Greetings!

The great danger in our journey, whether in the material world or spiritual world,
reflects the necessity of the Divine Incarnation of the Messiah and the generation of the
Sanctuary of Grace – for when we abide in the Sanctuary of Grace, enacting a constant
self-purification (confession and repentance) and an active and dynamic surrender, and
we actively labor to generate the Sacred Heart, there is a perfect guardianship in the
Way, divine protection, or “sanctuary.” ... Coupled with this spiritual self-discipline, if
we seek an ongoing spiritual education, and cultivate a sacred friendship with an
experienced teacher and guide, and with spiritual companions in community, it becomes
far less likely that we will fall into the dangers inherent in the spiritual or mystical
journey... In terms of spiritual discernment within our own experiences – all we need to
do is listen and hear the affects/effects of contacts in our consciousness, and feel their
frequency of vibration, paying attention to the kinds of thoughts and emotions they
invoke, and what they encourage in us. We merely need to cultivate a rigorous openness
and honesty with ourselves in our spiritual life and really look and see where such
contacts lead us. If we are willing to openness and honesty, if something is encouraging
egotism, or the play of attachment and aversion, we will notice it.

It is of key importence to understand that constant self-purification, an active and dynamic

surrender and the generation of the Sacred Heart are always necessary. To be able to rely on a
spiritual teacher and community and to receive a spiritual education is something one can not
value high enough. When we analyse our spiritual experiences and see what they encourage in us
their nature becomes very clear.

In gratitude for these teachings

Martina
