Notes from around the Parishes, August 2018

Harpley & the Massinghams

Congratulations to all the teams involved in running the varied

Fundraising events in July. In spite of competition from other events locally and world-
wide they all attracted a good turn-out and have raised substantial amounts, which will
help fund our churches over the next twelve months. – Remember – between our ten
churches we are asked to contribute a ‘Parish share’ in the region of £58,000 a year, to
help the Diocese fund our clergy and support schools and other missions.
Harpley Open Gardens was better than ever with 8 gardens open and a church
full of flowers. Over two days 171 people wandered round the village, enjoyed the
beautiful sights on offer and paused for refreshment in the church; some not up to the
walking involved on such a hot day just settled for sampling the superior refreshments in
the cool of the Church. Special thanks go to the eight gardeners, without whom the
weekend would not be possible. The total raised was an amazing £2,236.35.
Little Massingham Coffee Morning was a much shorter and smaller event
organised by very few people but it still raised a magnificent £500
Roydon’s ‘Bit of a Do’ took place on another sunny day but also clashed with the
World Cup. Nevertheless it was a splendid affair and well over £1000 was raised.
Congham Fête (with the famous Snail Racing) raised £2514.44. Due
to the involvement of the wider community other organisations also benefitted, with £75
going to the Air Ambulance and £25 to W Norfolk Breast Care Nurses (in lieu of fees to
the musicians). Both Holly Meadows Youth Football Club and the Soroptomists also
participated and raised funds.

All in all these were community events which brought many people together and were
enjoyed by everyone. ~ A result just as important as the funds raised.
Thank You to everyone who came along and supported
