ASKING FOR AND GIVING OPINION

Asking for opinion: Giving opinion:

-What do you think of….? -In my opinion,….

-What is your opinion about..? -In my humble opinion,….

-Do you think that ….? -I think….

EXAMPLE:

Dian: What do you think ofmy new sweater?

Berliana I think is cute.

EXPRESSING SATISFACTION AND DISSATISFACTION

Expressing satisfaction: Expressing dissatisfaction:

-I’m satisfied with…. -I’m not satisfied with….

-I’m satisfied at… -it isn’t very nice

-marvellous! - Annoying!

EXAMPLE:

Firman: This hotel is good. I’m pleased with it.

Father: Yes, I’m satisfied , except with the slow room service.

CONDITIONAL SENTENCES

1. Conditional type 1
The if clause is in the present tense, the main clause uses will and the infinitive , or
simple present.
Pattern:
He/she/it + verb 1 + s/es + object/adverb
They/we/I/you + verb 1/adverb
EXAMPLE:
-If you open the windows,the room will get some fresh air.
-Hendra will go if Ana gives hendra ticket.

2. Conditional type 2
The if clause in the simple past or the past continuous tense, the main clause uses would
and the infinitive , or would be and the present participle (verb-ing).
Pattern:
I/you/they/we/she/he/it + verb 1 + object/adverb
EXAMPLE:
-If he were here , I would tell him about my plan.
-I woul send her invitation, if found her addres.

3. Conditional type 3
The if clause in the past perfect or the past perfect continuous tense, the main clause uses
would have and past participle (verb3), or would have been and present participle (verb-
ing).
Pattern:
S + had +past participle
S + had + (been infinitive + ing).
EXAMPLE:
-Ifyou had come to the party last night, you would have met my cousin.
-I would have helped you, if you had told me about the problem.

EXPRESSING RELIEF

The other expression to express, you can say with:

-Oh that’s relief!

-Thanks God for….

-Good!

-Thanks heaven!

EXAMPLE:

A: If you don’t hurry we’ll be alter for the show.

B: Calm down. It takes only ten minutes to get there.


A: Thanks heaven.

EXPRESSING PAIN:

Here are some other expression to show pain:

-Ouch! It hurts too much

-Ouch, it hurts

-Ouch…. Ouch!

-It’s really hurts

EXAMPLE:

A: Ouch… it hurts I cut my hand.

B: Don’t play with that knife!

EXPRESSING PLEASURE

Expressing pleasure is an epression that is used to show someone or people are glad have excited
feelings.

EXAMPLE:

A: How do you like it?

B: Emm yummy! It’s so delicious.

ASKING AND GIVING ADVICE

The other expression to ask and give advice, you can say

Asking for advice:

-Do you think I should….?

-Shoud I….?

-What Would you advise?


Giving advice:

-You should….

-I think you should….

-Why don’t you….

Respons:

-Yes, that’s great. Thanks

-That sound like a great idea

-Thanks for your advice

EXAMPLE:

A: I’m not feeling well but I have to finish all these documents.

B: You must take rest.

WARNING

EXAMPLE:

A: Be careful, honey. Don’t drive too fast.

EXPRESSING OF REQUEST

Making request:

EXAMPLE:

A: I’ts very hot here. Would you open the windo, please?

B: Sure. I’ll open the window.
