CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
1. Conditional type 1
The if clause is in the present tense, the main clause uses will and the infinitive , or
simple present.
Pattern:
He/she/it + verb 1 + s/es + object/adverb
They/we/I/you + verb 1/adverb
EXAMPLE:
-If you open the windows,the room will get some fresh air.
-Hendra will go if Ana gives hendra ticket.
2. Conditional type 2
The if clause in the simple past or the past continuous tense, the main clause uses would
and the infinitive , or would be and the present participle (verb-ing).
Pattern:
I/you/they/we/she/he/it + verb 1 + object/adverb
EXAMPLE:
-If he were here , I would tell him about my plan.
-I woul send her invitation, if found her addres.
3. Conditional type 3
The if clause in the past perfect or the past perfect continuous tense, the main clause uses
would have and past participle (verb3), or would have been and present participle (verb-
ing).
Pattern:
S + had +past participle
S + had + (been infinitive + ing).
EXAMPLE:
-Ifyou had come to the party last night, you would have met my cousin.
-I would have helped you, if you had told me about the problem.
