ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The researches would like to express their deep and heartfelt appreciation to the

following people who made this project a success. It was difficult but it became bearable

because of them.

To Engr. Jonalyn A. Kimpay, for your guidance throughout the whole project and for

always being approachable and helpful in times of need.

To the custodian, Sir Francis, the one in-charge of apparatus, for his undying patience

and kindness in releasing and checking the apparatus needed in the conduction of testing of

the samples.

To their friends and classmates, who have been the researchers’ allies and source of

confidence during the time of the project.

To the parents of the researchers, the earthly providers of the young researchers, they

have nurtured the youth to what they are now. Their expression of love are overwhelming as

manifested in their support.

And most of all, the Lord Almighty for the blessings He endowed upon the researchers,

for His undying love, faithfulness, support, protection, and guidance that made the project

possible.

Thank you and God bless!

ABSTRACT

The objective of the project is to treat water or wastewater of chosen site to meeth the
standards of the target water. In this case, Bued River, which was classified as Class C, now
polluted, is to be treated to meet the standards of its classification or to improve the
classification to Class B. The criteria made for the researchers is that the location for the said
facility must be within Baguio City and it must be feasible in a way that the waste water
treatment facility be in a location with a close range to the water to be treated – whether the
water is municipal or industrial. Bued River met these criteria. With the location secured by
the Researchers, a sample wastewater was then tested at the University ERL. The river was
estimated to be flowing at a rate of 2000 m3/day and is to be transported to the treatment
plant that is elevated 3 meters above the river.
In order to transport the wastewater, a centrifugal pump is to be used for transportation
of the said water with the help of a gutter. Twenty percent of the water will be released back
to the river while 80% will be treated by the facility. Preliminary treatment will be done with
screening and grit removal, after so, a Primary Clarifier is to be used then into the Aeration
tank supplied with air by the Air Compressor, and lastly disinfection will be made in order
for the river to meet its standards. A separate sludge treatment and disposal will also be done.
Bued River is not easy to rehabilitate due to the large number of people living in the
area that contribute to the current situation of the river. Therefore, it is better for the water to
be treated first before being discharged to the bodies of water in order to meet the
Occupational Safety and Health Act standards for the wastewater.
