Questions to Recall the Story: a. Who is Maria in Leon’s life? b. Where did Maria come from? How was she described in the story? c. Why do you think the father told Baldo to take Leon and Maria to the Waig instead of the Camino Real? d. Did Maria successfully pass the test of the father? What has she proved to him and to the rest of Leon’s family? e. If you are a person from a barrio, are you in favor of Maria to be the wife of Leon? Explain your answer? 2. Video Viewing a. Introduce to the students the song entitled “Sky Sown with Stars” that Leon and Maria sang in the story. Play the video of the song and ask the students to listen carefully to the tune of the song and to understand the message of the lyrics accompanied with illustrations. b. Elicit students’ responses on the following questions: What did you feel upon reading the message of the song and listening to its tune? Explain your answer. What is the message of the song all about? Does the song sang by Maria and Leon manifest that they really love each other? Explain your answer. B. Presentation/Enrichment 1. Divide the class into four groups and distribute to each group the following tasks: Group 1: The students arrange the pictures of different scenes in the story chronologically and retell each scene in their own words. Group 2: The students list the advantages and disadvantages of marriage between two people having different culture or different economic status. Group 3: The students list the pros and cons of living in the city and living in the barrio. Group 4: The students illustrate how a city woman and a barrio woman look like. 2. Let other groups assess the work of a group that presented to the class. Choose the best presentation based on the rubrics below: Clarity of Ideas/Gathered Information = 10 points Appropriate Use of Illustrations/Charts = 5 points Proper Use of Gestures and Postures and Modulation of Voice = 5 points Cooperativeness Among Members = 5 points Total = 25 points C. Evaluation a. Ask the students to read the quote below: “Every relationship goes through troubled waters, but if the love is true nothing or no one can phase it and it will make it through the storm.” –Synonymous b. Elicit insights or reflections from the students based on the quote in relation to the story they read. Make them realize that if love is genuine, one will accept individual differences of the other and will never be afraid to face obstacles. Lead the moral of the story to the theme about genuine love and acceptance. D. Homework In your notebook, construct a related quote on your own based on what you have learned from the relationship of Leon and Maria.
