<<Manetti wrote a number of other works of varied humanistic interest, among them treatises
dealing with education and with Biblical interpretation. Of these, De dignitate et excellentia

adelante: <<The importance of Manetti's De dignitate hominis lies in the general purpose ad
tendency of the thought and its timeliness. Its substance, considerations on the soul and body of
man, its almost wholly borrowed – a fact that has escaped the notice of many scholars, to whom the
whole text has been unavailable. Indeed since Manetti acknowledges only a fraction of his debts,
their true extent might still escape a reader of the whole work>>3

Vita Iannotti Manetti6, aunque incorpora algunos datos nuevos. Esta obra fue traducida al italiano

in the prefatory epistle to King Alfonso, to whom he dedicated the work. On one of his official
visits to Alfonso's court in Naples, when he and the king were conversing about scholarly men, he
happened to mention a work that he had been reading shortly before, a treatise on the dignity of
man by Bartolomeo Fazio9, dedicated to Pope Nicolas V. Alfonso asked Manetti to write a treatise
on the same subject and to dedicate it to him. Although the work was begum soon afterward, it was
not completed until the next year (1452) because of the demands of Manetti's diplomatic

Leonard: <<Yet even though the borrows
page after page from Cicero, Lactantius, and others, sometimes transcribing exactly, sometimes
closely paraphrasing his source, he has not produced a mere compilation or anthology; he has
chosen his materials with a purpose and has organized them in the form of an argument for human
dignity that is his own and eminently acceptable to his generation. For his materials Manetti was
able to draw on his great knowledge of Greek, Latin and Hebrew authors, and on a personal library
impressive even for a time as much interested in the acquisitiom of books as his was>>11
