A carburetor is a device that blends air and fuel for an internal combustion engine in

the proper ratio for combustion. The carburetor works on Bernoulli's principle: the faster air
moves, the lower its static pressure, and the higher its dynamic pressure. The throttle
(accelerator) linkage does not directly control the flow of liquid fuel. Instead, it actuates
carburetor mechanisms which meter the flow of air being pushed into the engine. The speed
of this flow, and therefore its pressure, determines the amount of fuel drawn into the
airstream.
Types of Carburetors
Carburetors can actually be grouped by barrel, venturi type and air flow direction.
Each carburetor combines all three in terms of design. Among them are as follows:
1. Barrels
Barrels are the air ducts in which there is a venturi. The Barrel itself is divided into singlet
barrels and multi barrels. Single barrels usually have only one barrel. Used for cars with
low engine capacity or on a motorcycle.
2. Venturi
For the venturi itself is divided into fixed and moving venturi. Venturi still has a fixed
size. Where the gas pause controls the air valve to determine the amount of airflow
through the venturi. That way, will determine how much pressure is required in order to
utilize the fuel. In the venturi itself moves the gas pedal controls the size of the venturi
using a piston that can go up and down.
3. Air Flow Direction
The direction of the air flow itself is divided into 3 parts, including downdraft or flow
down, sidedraft or flat flow, and updraft or flow up. Downdraft itself is the air coming on
the carburetor and then out through the carburettor bottom. Sidedraft is the inlet air on the
side and then flows through the horizontal direction and then out through the section next
to it. While updraft is the opposite downdraft, where air enters at the bottom and out
through the top.

Functions Of Components In Carburators

1. Float (float) serves to regulate / control the movement of float valve (float valve) based on
the amount of fuel contained in the carburetor.
2. Needle buoy function to cover and open the fuel channel from the tank.
3. Choke valve function enrich the fuel mix, especially when the engine is cold.
4. Piston falve (throttle valve) function to change engine speed, maintaining engine speed at
different load.
5. Main jet serves to supply the appropriate fuel requirements at all engine speed rotation
rates.
6. Slow jet serves to supply fuel into the engine cylinder when the engine in the condition of
spin langsam.
7. Piston valve screw function to adjust the size of the piston valve at the time of engine
rotation langsam.
8. Pilot screw function to regulate the amount of air flow into the cylindrical chamber so as to
obtain the right mixture.
9. Accelerated pumps increase the amount of fuel when the engine changes the rotation
speed, from low to high rotation.
