the proper ratio for combustion. The carburetor works on Bernoulli's principle: the faster air
moves, the lower its static pressure, and the higher its dynamic pressure. The throttle
(accelerator) linkage does not directly control the flow of liquid fuel. Instead, it actuates
carburetor mechanisms which meter the flow of air being pushed into the engine. The speed
of this flow, and therefore its pressure, determines the amount of fuel drawn into the
airstream.
Types of Carburetors
Carburetors can actually be grouped by barrel, venturi type and air flow direction.
Each carburetor combines all three in terms of design. Among them are as follows:
1. Barrels
Barrels are the air ducts in which there is a venturi. The Barrel itself is divided into singlet
barrels and multi barrels. Single barrels usually have only one barrel. Used for cars with
low engine capacity or on a motorcycle.
2. Venturi
For the venturi itself is divided into fixed and moving venturi. Venturi still has a fixed
size. Where the gas pause controls the air valve to determine the amount of airflow
through the venturi. That way, will determine how much pressure is required in order to
utilize the fuel. In the venturi itself moves the gas pedal controls the size of the venturi
using a piston that can go up and down.
3. Air Flow Direction
The direction of the air flow itself is divided into 3 parts, including downdraft or flow
down, sidedraft or flat flow, and updraft or flow up. Downdraft itself is the air coming on
the carburetor and then out through the carburettor bottom. Sidedraft is the inlet air on the
side and then flows through the horizontal direction and then out through the section next
to it. While updraft is the opposite downdraft, where air enters at the bottom and out
through the top.
