MARK ON YOUR CALENDAR – EXPO 55+ - This year Expo 55+, where

you can meet about 40 service groups, will be held September 14, 1-3:30
pm at the Mlacak Center 2500 Campeau Drive. Come and find out what’s now
available to help you live a long and healthy life from the many exhibitors providing
information and advice. At this free, informative and fun afternoon you can also win
one of the many door prizes and enjoy great food.

KNL REZONING REQUEST has been received asking to change the zoning
on all of their remaining development, phases 7, 8 and 9 to R4 rather than
the present R3. Although both zones can be used for town houses and
singles, the R4 would also permit low rise buildings (up to 4 storeys). I’m
working with the City Planner to keep the R3 zoning for Phase 9 (which will
be built first) and deferring the zoning for phases 7 & 8 until more details
are known. Check my website for the date of a possible public meeting on
this rezoning. KNL is now planning to commence rock blasting and removal
in phase 9 in mid-August. A public meeting to discuss the zoning will be on
August 16th at 7 pm at a location to be determined.

MARIANNE ‘S MOVING ON GALA – With my term on Council finishing on

November 30th a Gala is being organized to raise funds for my next
community project – which is a Health Hub for Kanata. The idea is to provide
needed medical care that is hard to find now. I’ve had a preliminary
meeting with the heads of the Queensway Carleton Hospital, LHIN, CHEO,
Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre and Ottawa Public Health and
all are supportive of doing this. The Gala will provide initial funds for the
research involved. Help me celebrate my more than 50 years of community
service at the “Marianne’s Movin’ On” Gala on November 20 at the
Brookstreet Hotel. Tickets are $150 per person. Tickets are now
available on Eventbrite. See more information on my website.

WILD PARSNIP AND HOGWEED – These two invasive weeds found

throughout Kanata can be harmful if you come in contact with the sap of the
plant. Protect yourself by covering your skin and if you come in contact with
the sap wash it off immediately. Seek medical attention if you develop
burns on your skin or infections. The City provides detailed information at
http://tiny.cc/WildParsnip

MOSQUITOS – With the record amount of rain we have had over the last
week, larvae in flood plain areas will become mosquitoes. GDG continuously
monitors all wetland and did an aerial treatment along the Carp River last
weekend. Mosquitoes can breed anywhere, including wet grasses and
standing water in your backyard, including ponds, birdbaths, eaves troughs
etc. These are ideal areas where larvae can grow if they are not cleaned out
regularly. If you do have problems with mosquitoes please contact GDG at
info.moquito@gdg.ca or 1-877-227-0552 to get your concern addressed
quickly.

TOWN HALL MEETING- Save the Date - The next Town Hall is on September
17th. Details will be provided later.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES – It is that time of year when school is about to start and
families are getting school supplies for their children. Unfortunately, not everyone
in our community can afford them so the Kanata Food Cupboard collects donations
for their School Supply campaign. Go to www.kanatafoodcupboard.ca/ to find out
what is needed and how to donate.

KANATA SENIORS COUNCIL NEEDS NEW DIRECTORS – For just a few hours
a month you can support the Kanata Senior’s Council and other seniors by
serving on their Board. The volunteers on the Council do a fantastic and
rewarding job in providing programs and activities for seniors in our area
that keep them active and promote healthy living. Applying is easy. Pick
up a Nomination Form at the Front Desk of the Kanata Seniors’ Centre or go
to the Council website at www.kanataseniors.ca.

CAMPEAU DRIVE RE-PAVING – is now fully underway and should be

completed by early September. Expect delays while they do the road
preparation work (grinding and setting of iron works). Paving will be done at
night to enable traffic to flow during the day. It’s a nuisance now, but we’ll
have a much better road when it’s finished.

GOULBOURN FORCED ROAD – This week I received a request to extend

the road closure of Goulborn Forced Road until December 21, 2018. I’m
working with staff to see if the time needed can be shorter. Details on the
work and reason for the delay are on my website.
