NARRATIVE REPORT

My training in Dumaguete Coconut Mills in San Miguel, Bacong was so

knowledgeable. I learned and seen many things like the parts of the power plant,
refinery and also their oil mill. Safety was also important in the field to lessen or to
prevent accidents, so wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) is a must.

In our first day together with the other trainees, we were oriented by the HR
manager about the rules and regulations inside the plant. The safety officer also
explained how important safety is. He taught us the basic principles of safety and also
reminded us to always wear our personal protective equipment outside the field office.
In the afternoon, the three shift engineers explained the flow of the plant starting to
weighing of the copra, then going to the oil mill to extract the oil and refining the oil in
the refinery.

We were assigned to a special project, to design a conveying mechanism of the

spent clay from the oil filter to the mixer to recycle the spent clay. We are four in group
working on this design. Every morning, we were working on this project from April until
to the last week of May. Every afternoon we were assigned outside in different parts of
the plant. My first week was assigned in mechanical maintenance. What I did was
observe all the conveying system like the bucket elevators, screw conveyors, rotor lifts
and belt conveyors. Every parts like bearings, bolts, belts and others were listed on an
excel having their number of working hours and their preventive measure safety to
know when to replace a certain part of the machine. In the second week, I was assigned
to the refinery. We calibrated the temperature and pressure gauges in the pipes. We
also observe the startup of the refinery. Then the next week, in the warehouse where
they store of release the parts or equipment in the plant, we release the needed tools
from the warehouse. At the end of the week, we listed all the equipment in the
warehouse and made a request to order to the accounting the needed parts or
equipment.

In the engineering field and projects, I learned welding and metal cutting using
LPG and oxygen. We also observed the workers doing welding under water. It was really
amazing how they handle the work under water. I learned a lot about water treatment
when they assigned me in the boiler. In the morning, we observe the worker how they
treat the water they use in the boiler. They used salt to remove the minerals in water
that causes scales in the pipes. They use coconut shell as their fuel in the boiler to
produce steam to be use in the plant.

The oil mill is where the copra is ground into smaller pieces in the hammer mill
and flaker and then was cooked in the cooker. After the cooker, the oil was extracted
from the copra through the expeller then to be refined in the refinery.

In my last week, I was assigned in the electrical and auxiliary. We rewire some
motors with the other trainee. We also check the parameters in the control rooms in
the power plant.
