What is your vision for the Church? That body of believers who Jesus
told to "go into all the world and make disciples?" Obviously Christ
was calling for mission and evangelism. Do for the physical body,
speak to the soul. Everyone can be in mission and evangelism. How?
Support our missionaries in Kentucky, Vietnam and Liberia by giving
any amount to the mission offering (3rd. Sunday each month). Get in-
volved in our food pantry, in the CROP Walk, Operation Christmas
Child (shoebox gifts), Heifer Project (livestock for the poor). Do
hands-on mission with the Service Ministry. Find mission with the
UMW, UMM and Youth. Look for details in the church bulletin each
week or call the church office and staff will direct you. All efforts are a blessing to God and also to the one
who gives. So be blessed!

 New News...
What a ‘Wonder Full’ World Women’s Retreat! A total of
twenty-eight women attended the two day retreat in Sep-
tember at Colombiere Conference Center in Clarkston,
where we ‘traveled’ to Australia, Europe, Asia, Antarctica,
South America, Africa and North America and experienced
life in other cultures. There was an assortment of activi-
ties during this event, which included ethnic food from
different countries, group discussion and journaling, plenty
of laughter, craft projects, singing and daily prayer. It was
the perfect place to connect with old and new friends, and
also time for personal reflection and meditation in the Cen-
ter’s beautiful chapel or walking the grounds of the prop-
erty.
Some of the many things we learned through bible study
and discussion: what it was like to be outcast (as the
woman who touched Jesus’ cloak); royalty (the names we
came up with!); isolated (huddling like penguins); hope-
less; wondering if we can make a difference (in Africa).
We wonder if God really cares about us at all……the an-
swer is a resounding YES!
In Europe we were reminded that we are ‘royalty’ with a
purpose – from 1 Peter 2:9-10: “For you are a chosen peo-
ple. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own
possession. As a result, you can show others the good-
ness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his
wonderful light. Once you had no identity as a people; now
you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now
you have received God’s mercy.”
Many thanks to all the women who participated in this re-
treat. Special thanks to the retreat committee and the
session leaders who made this ‘world trip’ a success:

McBride, Arlene Lanning, Carolyn Landis, Donna Heddins,
Pat Wagner, Shirley Pittsley.
*Knotted baby blankets (made during our ‘travel to Africa’)
will be donated to the Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Worship & Evangelism Workshop at SCUMC!

Warmed, sponsored by the Detroit Conference
Board of Discipleship. There is a $15 cost per per-
son (lunch included) if registered before October
30th or $20 per person at the door. Child care is
also available at $10 per child.

Cass Ave. on Saturday, October 9th and JH will be
heading to Baldwin On Saturday, October 16th for
the annual service projects! Gather at the church
Saturday morning and return Sunday afternoon.

ALIVE News
Our Wednesday evening Alive ministry for chil-
dren and youth has gotten off to an excellent start
this year! Each week we have 43 kids participate
in bible study, recreation, music, and mission. So
far, the confirmation class has explored the history
room to learn more about our church, the youth
class has started reading through the Gospel of
Mark, the 4th & 5th grade class has learned all
about Jesus’ upside-down blessings and has made
signs to encourage the congregation to donate to
the food pantry, the 2nd & 3rd grade class has also
made signs for the food pantry and has enjoyed
experimenting with the chimes with the More-
lands in music, and the Kindergarten-1st grade
class has learned all about how we share God’s
love. We hope that new friends will continue to
join us for fun, fellowship, and growing in God’s
ways! All kids and youth, Kindergarten-12th
grade, are welcome! For more information, con-

this wonderful ministry happen, we need lots of
volunteers! We are currently in need of a bible
study teacher, a recreation assistant, and a deco-
