Bundaberg Campus

With an utter pleasure, I feel glad to introduce myself as Johanna Antolin-Valor. I am a permanent
resident of Quezon City, Philippines residing at King Henry Street Novaliches. I am very much dedicated
and ambitious student who is willing to study Diploma of Nursing in Tafe and proceed to Bachelor in
Nursing in Central Queensland University (CQU) in Bundaberg, Australia for July intake 2017. It is my
Sister-in-law (Adenelle Antolin) who also graduated from your doors recommended your institutions to
be part of achieving my dream. My family was engaged in different business and no one is in the field of
Nursing, so I decided to enroll in Far Eastern University as Bachelor of Nursing but unfortunately due to
financial problems I did not finished my nursing that is why I have to transfer in a cheaper course. Now
this is my chance to continue my unfinished study in Nursing through the sponsorship of my Aunt
Yolanda Millar who is an Australian citizen. Besides this, I have a primary vision to work in the leading
Hospital of my home country. Through this statement of purpose, I intended to disclose my personal,
educational background, career goal that I have set and the specific reasons to continue my further
studies in Australia and particularly in TAFE and CQU.

1. Why have you chosen Australia as a study destination?

- I want to study in Australia because of the cultural diversity, friendly natives and high quality
education and also employers all over the world recognize degrees from Australian schools.
And one of the most appealing aspects of the country is the quality of scientific research,
new technology and innovations.
2. Highlight the reasons why you have chosen QCUniveristy and TAFE. Information on comparisons
with other universities would be desirable.
- Central Queensland University and Tafe are both located in Bundaberg. They both offer a
variety of support services in order to assist students to develop the personal skills needed
to achieve both academic and career goal. CQU is Queensland’s first dual sector university
rated five stars for internationalization offering a wide range programs and higher research
degrees. The flexible study options with full award or non-award programs, teaching
methods based on industrial realistic need and requirements, high-tech multimedia labs,
extensive student support services attracted me to choose Tafe and CQU. In addition, they
both provides one of the best combinations of perfect balance of theoretical and practical
learning classroom offering a wide range of industrial relevant programs across any
Australian University.
3. Information regarding research conducted on similar programs taught in home country.
- The practicum here in the Philippines is very limited unlike in Australian Bachelor of Nursing
curriculum they have fully equip facilities that replicate a real- life hospital ward, and also in
our country they don’t offer Diploma of Nursing.
4. Gap explanation-provide information on any periods of time between formal studies and work
experience.
- After graduation, I voluntary decided to took care of my grandfather who is very ill that
time, he had a stroke and no one is looking after him.
5. Awareness about the chosen programs
- I would like to take Diploma of Nursing in Tafe East Coast with duration of 18 months, which
includes 20 core units and 5elective units, to have more hands on training as clinical
placement and they also have approachable lecturers who prepared their students in a real
workplace situation. I believe that Tafe will definitely help me to gain necessary
qualifications. After taking Diploma, I want to proceed to further study at Central
Queensland University to take my Bachelor in Nursing that will also take 18 months upon
crediting my units.
6. How you believe your chosen program at CQU will increase your chances in the labour market in
your home country and benefit career growth?
- I am presently working in a hospital as an administration assistant in Biomed Department
we handled different machines, as I noticed that most of the nurses in our country has only
limited knowledge about nurses plan , so I believe after I finished my program in your
institutions I can voluntarily share them the techniques and methods that I will acquired. By
this I can be more globally competitive in teaching nurses a different ways of method in
handling different situations in the hospital.
7. Reasons highlighting the incentives to return back to home country.(family circumstances,
family assets, possible job prospects.etc.)
- After completion of my program, due to my daughter circumstances, I intended to plan a file
for the sole custody of my daughter since I am not married to his father, and change her
surname in my husband’s family name, so she won’t be confused when she grown up. And
also we plan to transfer the title of our lot which will I inherited to my parents. My husband
also plans to go back to his job in cruise to save a lot of money for our future plans.
8. Obligations of a student under a higher education visa
- The student must comply with the visa condition while studying and living in Australia and
also the Australian laws. Also that the student and family member have adequate financial
support and health cover.
- Work within the allowable time
- Student must remain enrolled in a registered course and that the student must tell the
education provider the address where we live in Australia
- That we cannot stay in Australia beyond the date on our visa.
9. Detailed explanation of previous work history
- July 2015, I apply in an agency (Topserve Manpower) and luckily they deploy me in one of
the most prestigious Hospital in the Philippine (St.Lukes Medical Center), I know that
working in this hospital is my starting point of my career hoping that after I finished I
finished my Diploma and Bachelor of Nursing in Australia I can go back and work as a
registered nurse.. Currently, I am working as Administration Assistant in Biomed. It gives me
the best opportunity to be more familiarized with the high end machine that they are using
in the patient. These work experience gave me the excitement, it motivates me how great
to be nurse it also taught me patience, determination and eagerness. The personal trait that
i have acquired will definitely aid me in fulfilling your requirements and hopefully increase
the chance of securing a place in your institution.
10. What do you intend to do when returning to your home country.
- After I graduate in your leading institutions, I intended to go back to St. Lukes Medical
Center to work, not as a clerk but this time a more competitive nurse. And as my future plan
I will apply in United States of America since having a Bachelor in Australia is recognized all
over the world.
11. Do you have previous immigration history such as visa applications?
- No , I don’t have this is my first time to apply as student visa .
12. Do you currently have family members in Australia?
- Yes I have family member living in Australia. Firstly my Aunt Yolanda Millar currently residing
in Bundaberg, she is the one who will sponsor my whole family while temporary staying in
Australia. Second is my brother Jefferson Antolin, who is an Australian citizen and residing in
Bundaberg for more than 5 years and also my nephews Marcus Jordan Antolin and Julian
Alexander Antolin, since I haven’t seen them for a long period of time.

As per the fulfillment of terms and conditions, I have attached all the necessary documents for your
reference with regard to my knowledge. I therefore declare to you that I am honest, dedicated and
ambitious student seeking a temporary stay in Australia for gaining a better and quality education until
the completion of my program

Johanna A. Valor
